I have a Marshal that is KOed. I rolled the injury chart and got a crushed arm. Can I still use my shotgun in the remaining scenario? Or I have to use melee since I don't have any 1 hand weapon. And If I do melee, should I be be using combat = 2? or 1?
Thanks

Hmm have not come across anything in the rules that state anything either way on this one. Thematically I'd play it as you have implied.

Will be interesting to see if anyone knows of rules clarification on this one.

Well, the Injury reads: Your arm has been bent and crushed a bit. It may even be broken. You are Combat -1.

If you want to play it up thematically like you can't use it, that's up to you. But you're just Combat -1. So minus one melee die from whatever you'd normally have.

There are other injuries or mutations that specify negatives in relation to guns and hands.. but this isn't one of them.

Not that I can see. So it'd be up to you. But 'Combat' in SoB is specifically referring to melee.

I'd say it doesn't prevent it.
You could still brace a shotgun on a broken arm.
Granted it would hurt like hell, but it's doable.

That's got a movie scene written all over it. Add shotgun cartridges held in the teeth to help reload and it's all there.

Nice call.

What about duel wielded pistols though?

It says crushed arm, not crushed hand. There is a different injury that affects your hand(s).

You can still shoot a gun with an arm injury. Again, as before, it would hurt like a mudder dudder, but you could shoot.

Ignore the crushed arm title and just read the -1 combat.

This whole game is a movie scene if you let your imagination run wild.

Some of the session write ups ive seen are brillant.

Logic says "crushed arm= no use of hand"

Awesome factor says "crushed arm? Psh, I'll worry when I have a crushed head"

Awesome factor wins this round.

Think of it more like the arm got busted up/broken and it didn't heal back fully. The arm isn't useless, it merely makes it difficult to swing a melee weapon since it now moves awkwardly. Hence, -1 combat. You aren't missing the arm and the arm isn't useless. The hand still works well enough and can grip a weapon.

I think the issue is the terminology.
People are thinking crushed, like soda can crushed.

That's not allows the case.
I suffered a "crushing" injury year ago to my abdomen.
It fractured four ribs (didn't know this at the time) , after which I went on a 6 mile run.

I didn't run well mind you, but I did run.

The description of the injury was a crushing injury to to blunt trauma.
So, by the letter, my chest was "crushed" .
But I promise you, it wasn't an egg shell crush, otherwise I'd not be writing this.

Your arm can get crushed without being mangled.
It even goes on to say "it may even be broken".

Another way to look at it, if you've ever had your fingers get caught in a door, that's a crushing injury.
Depending on how bad it was, you could still use your hand, but not very well.

I prefer having the folks with their mouths grown over to only make muffled noises at the game table. :P

But! You could still wear a sweet hat with a crushed head. Discuss.
