After a few recent threads regarding horror/scary movies, I was thinking that my ideal horror movie would be an as-true-as-possible adaptation of the novel "House of Leaves." This would also be the book I would most like to see on the big screen, regardless of genre. (There are plenty of others I would like to see, of course, but I'd probably be most excited if this one were to happen... and yes, this book probably would be close to impossible to do.)

So, chit-chatters, which ONE book would you most like to see on the big screen?

I've been reading the "Fablehaven" series with my kids, who love it. Speaking for them, and for myself, I would love it if those books were adapted into movies (as long as they weren't totally butchered, of course).

I think the operative phrase is "good movie", something that's uncommon amongst adaptations.

I'd love to see The Lies of Locke Lamora in the right hands. My only fear is whoever would take it would spend all their effort making it look great at the cost of the wit of the dialogue (henceforth known as "Lucasing").

I see Warner Brothers optioned it back in 2006, but that's it.

The Bone Clocks would be an interesting one as well, though that would probably work better as a miniseries than a movie. I don't think it would catch on though, since the real meat of the story (the war between psychics) is at the very edges of the book until it is finally front and center in the second to last section.

Wizards first rule.
They tried to make a show out of it but the one hour partitions just couldn't do the story justice. Maybe a sci-fi mini-series could do the trick.

Good stuff. Now, in addition to all those horror movies, it's looking like I'm making a reading list...

I always thought Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire series would make a nice movie trilogy, with a feel similar to the original Star Wars.

Also Zahn's Icarus Hunt would be good, I think.

(While I'm on the same kick, Zahn's Conqueror's novels would be good, but I think they'd have to cut too much out of them to get them to movie length.)

Anything by Guy Gavriel Kay. I had heard that Lions of Al-Rassan was optioned, but nothing seems to have come of it. The Sarantine Mosaic books would make a great movie, too.

My following suggestion fails on several levels (both are series, not one book, and I'm mentioning two series, not just one). Also, I'd likely want them made into mini-series or a series of movies, but whatever -

We have the CGI tech nowadays. Can we please get:

Fritz Leiber's Fafhrd and Grey Mouser series;
Roger Zelazny's Amber series.

Even if one does get made, and made well, it will likely all end in tears for me - like that darned one movie only Patrick O'Brian Master and Commander flick.

That's okay. I'm not doing any rule enforcement here...

"Shades of grey" by Jasper Fforde, mostly because it is all about colours and colour perception so i am curious what moviemakers would do with the visualization.
