This is something of a game and somethig of an earnest question. I'm curious how ratings and rankings of things look if certain other conditions were different?

What rating/rank would base Dominion be if it had no expansions?
What rating/rank would Agricola be if it had only the base family variant with no cards?
What rating/rank would One Night Ultimate Werewolf be with no app?

List your own too! I'm quite curious what people think on these such things.

EDIT: My personal thoughts is that base Dominion is still a decent game, but I'm not sure if its worthy of its top 30 rank. Maybe top 70s or so where Ticket To Ride/Splendor is at? It also has the bonus of being the first deckbuilder.

I think Agricola is still fun with the base and would be top 50 still, given how thematic it is for a euro.

I think ONUWW would be badly rated without an app to track it. I'd put it a whole half point or whole point lower.

Opinions?

Interesting topic...

What rank would Android: Netrunner be if it was released as a CCG rather than an LCG?

What rank would Caylus be if it was released today and compared to the existing Worker Placement games?

What rank would (insert Games Workshop game) be if you removed all the 'hate votes' from people who had never played the game but wanted to stick it to the man?

What rank would Dixit be if the game was the same, but the artwork was only mediocre?

Well, I've just started with Dominion, and I think it's a fantastic game just from the base set. I'm sure the expansions will add more to my experience, but so far, I've been well pleased with it.

Same with Agricola, as I only have the base set.

I don't care for ONUW, but that's because that style of game does not appeal to me. Sometimes you just don't like what everybody else seems to, ya'know?

Well, I guess it would have a rating of about 2.56 and a ranking of 10655.

Or even just "what rank would Monopoly be if none of us had played it as kids?"

I should take advice from the legal profession and never ask a question if I don't already know the answer . . .

Never fear. Eventually, you will see a Kickstarter for a game called, "Mage Land." It will have great artwork and fabulous minis. You will back it for $70. You will wait many months. Shipping will be delayed. Finally, you will receive it. Essentially, it will be a re-themed version of Candy Land. But it will break the top 50 on BGG.

Well, I'll just throw in some of my favorites games...

What rank would Nexus Ops be if the FF version minis were made out of the same material as the original?

What rank would Betrayal at House on the Hill be if it had better components? What about a better rulebook/less messy rules?

As for Lords of Waterdeep, I imagine it'd be much lower - the theme made many people who wouldn't normally play it try it out.

And wow, just looked up The Man in the High Castle... I think I'm going to have to read that book, once I finish the Dune series.

You could say this for many big name designers. If you took the name "Uwe Rosenberg" or "Vlaada Chvatil" off certain boxes, they would drop 100 spots in the rankings.

About the same as Descent 2.0

X-Wing has been re-implemented, with a star trek (441) and a D&D (2052) theme and if I am not mistaken re-implements (or is similar to) an early game wings of war/glory.

I thought the artwork was mediocre

Probally alot higher assuming people were actually willing to trade too. I stand by the opinion that monopoly with rules as written isn't a terrible game. It's not a great game but than neither is Catan.

Which brings me what would Catan be ranked if it was released in the US first instead of Europe? Would that have had a butterfly effect on the whole of the popularity of "euro" games outside of Europe?
