There is no reason to have two A's at the beginning of aardvark. I simply won't do it.

My gaming group has tried to beat this game 11 times and has lost 11 times. Sometimes it's obvious a turn or two before the showdown, sometimes we're going in blind and we get tripped up by some crazy card.

Anyone else having a super hard time with this game?

Anyone have a good strategy that is helping increase the odds for the vanquishers?

We lost most of our games but always on the verge of winning. Information is the key so if you are playing with less than 8 players you have to choose wisely your vanquishers. We always make sure that the following vanquishers are in play:

1)Tatsu (power: reveal 1 face down situation card)
2)Rin (power: discard 1 face up situation card)
3)Heiji (power: check all face down situation cards on 1 villain. You may turn any number of them sideways).

The most important thing in the game is to know as much as possible from a villain and to have the ability to remove the cards you do not want to fight against.

heiji MUST have a "Precaution" card in play before he starts using his power. To prevent "when revealed effects" is as important as to know what to remove as some situation cards can cripple your most important heroes. So if heiji does not have one, the other players have to make sure he gets one. The ideal scenario is that every player that reveals cards have a "precaution" in play before doing so, but if at least Heiji has it you have a chance of not being crippled by effects.

When playing with more than 3 players always think cooperatively. Pass the cards you think will be necesary for other players to be more efficient. Do not think only of your heroes abilities. That is a sure loss.

I think one of the most impressive features of this game is that it is unforgiven to a group where even just 1 player does not cooperate and goes trait to punish the entire group for that players misjudgement.

Do not play the game with players that you know will not cooperate. you will surely lose.

So... cooperate and make others understand they HAVE to cooperate as well... you increase your chances of winning radically.

Oboro is a great assistant to the game if players are hit by "when revealed effects" that add cards that cripple your vanquishers or if players use cards like "infiltration" or "investigation" that have a cost of 4-5 times.

Yashamaru, gensai and seinoshin sakakibara are your power players. the are very strong but I recommend they are not used when playing with 3-4 players as strenght serves nobody if the vanquishers do not know the secrets behind the villains power.

Gensai y great in combination with Oboro. Mainly if "infiltration" was played as he can recover it from the discard pile, play it while oboro removes it just for him to recover it again and maybe send it to another player.

So, use your heroes abilities wisely.

Just played 2 rounds of a 2-player game.

First seemed way too easy. Second, we got asses handed to us. It seems we got severely lucky on the first run.

We had an awesome time though. Can't wait to bring this out with more peeps.

We always draw our Vanquishers randomly and draw the villains randomly - it is more fun that way. If you lose, you lose. With a bigger group I think more can go wrong, because there is a higher likelihood of a very, very bad situation card sitting on a villain. The stalemate one and the infinite life one are the two in particular I'm thinking about. Have fun! Don't stop playing. 3 to 5 players is the best.
