I could do with one of those to get me into the car in the morning.

I must say I think a lot of it is the Thunderbirds march music, a work of genius IMHO. I get a similar feeling when I hear 633 Squadron theme or the Dambusters' march.

Wonder if it was the basis for this (from about 1:10 on)?

Yes, of course, and one of the best bits of the Wallace and Gromit film 'Curse of the Were-Rabbit' was the 'extended' version of the slide which actually was more similar to the TB version! And having to explain to my daughter how brilliant this section was because of the reference to TB!

A closer reference is where W & G respond to the anti-pesto alarm and slide down TB2 style chutes into chairs then travel along and the chairs are lifted up TB3 style in Curse of the Were-rabbit.

Great thread. Enjoy.

Notice how the boys manage to swap places on the sofa (off camera, twice).

Just watched Trapped In The Sky on the train this morning. Was expecting cheesy after all these years, but it was great. Some fantastic special effects that you didn't appreciate as a kid.

The guy that did those special effects, Derek Meddings, went on to work on the special effects for the James Bond movies and Superman, amongst many others.

I dunno....

maybe I'm just being old and cranky (and I probably am!) but I can't get excited about the new series. Those pictures just look like screenshots from The Sims or something.

well they are still using models for the vehicles and such, but I think actual puppetry would look out-dated and be time consuming. CGI is a form of modern puppet really so having a mix is at least honoring the spirit of the original show. It could have been entirely CGI and uninspiring.

It was the attention to detail that amazes me. People often say that "kids don't miss a thing", and it's true.
Even as a kid I really appreciated that small blast screen popping up out of the runway behind T2 on take off. The guy was a genius, and you can tell all his shows were a labour of love.

Fair enough. If they're using real models. Like I said, I'm being cranky and I perhaps ought to watch it before dismissing it laugh
