I'm visiting London for about three days, from Monday to Wednesday next week.

Should I ask around here, who's up to it or just go to a scheduled board game meeting (for example LondonOnBoard)?

What would you advise?

Best off making a booking for London on Board. Central, easy to get to and always a range of games going on.

I think you'll be too late for London On Board. They book up usually at least a week beforehand, so you might be too late!

Does draughts - the board game cafe - get many "turn up without friends and look for a game" customers. I'm not in London and won't be there over the time you're about, but that may be an option. there is a link to Draughts somewhere in the England/UK forums I believe.

I think that requires pre-booking- might be worth calling now to see if there's any free spaces?

Wednesday and Thursday night gaming are less busy but, yes, there's a waitlist already. The waitlist for Monday is 21+ people!!!!

I think LoB needs to consider having two venues going at the same time...

What's the current capacity of LoB's venue?

Wider invitation for gamers willing to head slightly south of the river.

Croydon Board Gamers meet every Wednesday @ Matthew's Yard, a short walk from East Croydon station (only 10mins from Victoria or London Bridge).

We regularly get 15-20 gamers and plenty of space for more.

Checkout our meetup page for info and to sign up for events.

We use a number of different venues, but the main one has a limit of 55. Other vary from 30 to 75.

I don't think Draughts have anything along the lines of what you're thinking, but they do have some very nice 'Game Gurus' who might be able to be your wingman and help you join a game, if you want to try your luck.

It's worth noting they're closed Mondays, though, and open from 5pm on weekdays.

Swiggers meets on Wednesday evenings in a pub near London Bridge station. You'd be welcome.
