I've just downloaded the Vassal module and ERules for RTW, and I was quite astonished when discovering that Denmark is a neutral country.

Neutral??? Denmark is one of NATO founding members, and a very important one during '80s thanks to its control of the Baltic - North Sea passage.

It is well that wargames are so terrible, lest we should grow too fond of them.

Even presuming that "Denmark wants to stay out from Soviet target list" is an acceptable assumption, being totally neutral would be an all-out treachery and actually the best way to enter that target list: no standing NATO support for stopping / detecting an amphibious assault, airborne attack and so on.

Moreover, denying access to Faroe and greenland would practically force NATO to "invade" danish territory, as happened in WW2.

What we need is a sandbox/modular WWIII game where everybody could mix and match their own assumptions.

Not sure about balance, but at least it'd make the conversation less acrimonious.

I think, in view of Denmark's refusal to allow NATO forces to base or port in Denmark, it's a reasonable assumption. After all, they played the neutral card during World War Two, and for obvious reasons, and self preservation trumps any sense of loyalty when talking about geopolitics.

Yes, exactly! This would be especially justified if Denmark is an official NATO member.

Eric :-)
