Me and my wife enjoyed runebound and are now looking for another game which will give us some kind of an epic feeling. I wouldn't mind some type of war game a la conquest of the empires. Although I think it doesn't play well with 2.

To give an idea, we love dungeon twister, but not so much M44.

thanks!
Sylvain

It's not a wargame, but Descent: Journeys in the Dark is in the Runebound universe. It's a big ol' dungeon crawl.

If you liked Memoir, I'd suggest Battlelore, but since you don't it probably won't work for you.

War of the Ring is certainly a no-brainer for a two-player epic wargame.

Try Also:

Axis and Allies

Star Wars: Queen's Gambit

Enjoy!

Tic-Tac-Toe, except whenver you draw an "X" or an "O" you reface it with "My army draws an 'X' here", or "My general has decided to put an 'O' here."

Duel of Ages plays perfectly with 2 and it's lots of fun. If you play long enough, some very epic stories can develop, especially if you add some of the expansions

You don't get more epic than The Campaign for North Africa. You two could spend the rest of your life playing this game once. This is based on a comment by the designer. When asked how long would it take to play the whole campaign game he said, "If you have ten people who understand how to play the game, about 3000 hours." Since there are only two of you, that would mean approximately 15,000 hours. If you average 3 hours per day, that would mean 5,000 days, or almost 14 years!

On a more realistic note, War of the Rings sounds about perfect for you. Be prepared for the first game to go about eight hours, but that time will decrease as you become familiar with the game. As you get more involved, you can buy the expansion and/or paint the figures.

One important Nota Bene for War of the Ring. The introductory game in the basic rules is really, really unbalanced. Best to go straight to the full rule set.

I will back up Duel of Ages, a great game!

but let me also suggest Antiquity *drools*

I have heard it plays wonderfully with 2, it is definitly epic, and while I have only played once....I have been dreaming about it ever since.
