Download the PDF! http://www.die-hardgames.com/assets/apex_rulebook.pdf

Confusion mounting. Watch the intro videos and they contradict the published rule book. Look in the forums for clarification and some times it becomes clear there is the published rule book and there is the new PDF version. So questions asked first have to go through the process of figuring out if still using the just published hard copy.

It appears to be a good game - let us help this fledgling publisher by trying to keep this from becoming the only thing the game is remembered for.

To keep this notice as close to the hotness as possible in this forum - as each user comes on for clarification and sees this thread - please add a reply so others for the next 6 months will get the clue

Placing the correct rulebook version in the files section is likely the easiest way to manage version control.

Although I doubt BGG will accept a ~65mb PDF

Scoured the rulebook again today, and found some things I overlooked in my previous haste.

BUT, I did notice one internal discrepancy that I hadn't picked up on before.

Top of Page 14: When Alerts are triggered, alert actions in the game trail occur "from Footprint 4 going left to Footprint 1."

Top of Page 27: Alert actions are triggered "from left to right."

Which is it? I've been using the latter. I feel like this question might have been asked before, but I couldn't find it now.

Anyone have an answer for this? Or am I misreading again? The order of alerts seems like a pretty important game mechanic.

Thanks; I figured that would take precedence since it says "Footprint 4," which wouldn't have appeared in earlier versions. I'll play it that way from now on.

Okay, worked myself through the new rulebook.

P.27 Ambush: If the player played an Alet Card
"Alet" is missing an "r"

p.26 Repopulate. End of Step 1:
Jump to Action Order 4.
Shouldn´t that be Action Order 3?

p.19 Ambush Point:
This space is reserved to playce up to three Apex Cards.
Since Ambush preparations can be stacked now the Ambush Point can now hold more than three Cards, right?

So, some broad strokes - as a KS backer, the major rule changes:

Ambush can now add up to 3 cards per turn, adding an alert each time
4 slots for game trail instead of 3
4 slots for evolve instead of 3
repopulating hunting grounds happens at beginning of turn instead of end

Anything I'm missing?

- Number of rounds/Enviroment cards reduced by 4!
- Difficulty scaling (12 to 9 rounds)
- Fight or Flight mechanism for boss fights
- recycling of rightmost game trail end evolve card only happens at start of round (no longer at end of each turn)

Oh!

I was at work when I was skimming through the rules, so I didn't see those, that's pretty cool. The round reduction I feel was necessary, adds some randomness. The recycling at the end of the round instead of turn is another big one.

thanks!

This thread confuses me.

Does it mean the PDF (which is only 5.5 MB from the Google Docs link, not 65 MB, as previously posted) is different from the published retail version rulebook?

Or does it just mean the retail version rulebook is different from the 1st edition/Exotic Predators edition rulebook?

Thanks

It gets even weirder. Turns out, all the soft copies of the 2nd edition rulebook have slight variations than what you get in the box.

For some inexplicable reason, the final retail rulebook was never the version that was shared electronically by the designer.
