I'll be in Canberra on a business trip in mid-January. Are there any regular gaming groups to which I might pay a visit?

CanCon is a largish gaming convention in Canberra over the Australia Day weekend (Australia Day is 26th Jan so I assume we're talking 26-28 Jan for the con). Although primarily wargames, it does seem to have a growing Eurogame component. http://www.cgs.asn.au/cgs_framework.asp?type=cancon

You should also look at Eurogamesfest - 3rd Sunday of every month - http://eurogamesfest.com/

Enjoy your visit!

Don Bone (designer of Sundal to Sahul and Freya's Folly) coordinates a gathering at the Pancake Parlor one the 1st Thursday evening of each month and a day at the German club on the 3rd Sunday of each month (which Melissa has already pointed out!) - see http://sagacity.aires.com.au/EuroGamesFestCanberra.html

Cheers,
Bill

While you're in town check out the National Art Gallery and Questacon (the wacky interactive science museum).

I've had the pleasure of gaming with Don Bone's groups and it was good fun!

There's a forum on gaming groups in canberra here on BGG.

Don't bother checking out the local game store (overpriced and limited selection). Spend your time at the National Gallery instead.

Thanks everyone. I think the first Thursday of the month won't work for my meeting schedule. With any luck I would be able to get to the 3rd Sunday event. Thanks again.

Oops sorry - I meant 1st Tuesday in month.

Let us know when you're around - extra sessions often appear in January ...

I will be arriving in Canberra on January 13 and departing on January 20 so it looks like I will miss both the first Tuesday and the third Sunday events cry.

Please let me know if there are any "off-cycle" gaming sessions during this time. I'd enjoy meeting some more Australian gamers.

Thanks, Ted
