This is a quick write up of my replay of the 2004 Spanish Grand Prix. Qualifying was uneventful except for previous race winner Michael Schumacher. Who was experiencing some handling deficiencies in the Ferrari which put him 6th on the grid. Pole sitter and early race leader Barrichello succumbed to a engine problem on lap 13. Events leading up to the first stop find Schumacher’s Ferrari running in 2rd. Helped by Alonso spining then stalling the Renault and Montoya’s surprising lack of pace after a great qualifying session. Michael pits on lap 31 a quick stop vaults him ahead of race leader Button. Who stops for servicing on lap 35. Meanwhile Raikkonen inherits the race lead, Pushing his Mclaren Mercedes all the way to lap 40 before pitting. Schumacher never gets closer than 9 seconds and Kimmi takes the checkered, Followed by Michael and Montoya. Button having to retire on lap 39 due to a transmission issue. A major battle was fought all race for 5th and 6th. With Coulthard and Fisichella trading position back and forth all race, Coulthard just holding him off at the line to take 5th.

M Schumacher (Ferrari)
