We like many things about this game (it's great for families with kids and casual gamer friends), but the random token drawing is tedious and boring, to tell the truth. After a little tinkering, I came up with this variant.

Players take turns being the town crier, the function passing clockwise around the table. When it´s your turn, draw a number of tokens from he bag equal to the number of players + one (i.e. three players = four tokens) and lay them on the table. You then decide to either pick first or last. If you want to pick last, the player to your right picks one of the tokens, then the next etc going clockwise round the table. The last player to pick of course gets the remaining two tokens, which can be a great boon - this is why you might often choose to pick last when you are the town crier. Each player then places a legionnare as normal on the symbol they chose, the last player of course placing two.

Also, as this means we draw the tokens from the bag pretty fast, we don´t put them back when we draw a joker, instead we wait until all are drawn and then put them back.

So far we really like this variant - it's less repetitive and adds a whole new layer of tactics. In fact, it doesn't feel like so simple anymore - this one is for shrewd players!devil
