Am wondering if members of the forum would mind racking their brains (and collections) to think of board wargames that feature scenarios for the battle of the Hydaspes (in which Alex. the Great defeated the Indian king Porus)?

The reason I ask is that the Society of Ancients battle day this year (March 28th) is on the Hydaspes, and it would be good to get as comprehensive a list as possible of games that include a scenario for it.

Society members will be deploying various miniatures rules sets for the big bash in the UK, but for those of us who can't make it on the day playing a boardgame version might allow us to still get into the spirit of the affair.

I know Commands & Colors: Ancients and the Great Battles of Alexander both have Hydaspes scenarios. Are there any others that people know of and/or can comment on? Any thoughts on which ones do a good job?

Thanks in advance!

Alexander the Great had a scenario for Hydaspes published in The General magazine, Volume 12, Number 4, pages 3-5 and 26. Pieces needed to play were provided as a paper sheet in an insert--they had to mounted and cut out. You can find the variant in the Files section of the BGG entry for the game.

Ancient Battles Deluxe Expansion Kit 1: Elephants at War. It's an expansion and it requires the base game. Also Lost Battles.

My copy of Ancients has a Hydaspes scenario. (That game reimplements Ancients I and Ancients II; Hydaspes is from the latter).

Thanks, that's useful. Do you know if it uses l'art de la Guerre system, or is it a standalone game?

From the description on the website it's a custom scenario for Art de la Guerre.

There's a distinct probability I'll be coming along on 28th March, for the Lost Battles aspect of the day.

Will there be just one large Lost Battles demo going on, or is there going to be the possibility of playing the game (using the boardgame elements) on the day as well?

Cheers,

Dave

You mentioned this in your OP, but just so the info is here for future reference:

Juggernaut: Great Battles of Alexander Module is the module with Hydaspes.

...and also the soon-to-be-released The Great Battles of Alexander: Deluxe Edition reprint....
