I recently bought a couple expansions from Hasbro, and there was a black sticker on the back of each one. I peeled one off, and underneath were a logo of a red lion head on a yellow triangle, and another logo which is just the letters "CE".

Does anyone know what these logos are, and why there were stickered over?

The CE is a common logo that's on a lot of products. Has something to do with Europe:

No idea about the other logo. Possibly a Europe connection as well. Hasbro might have blocked them out since they weren't going to a European country.

But why would they need to cover them?

Does it really matter?

Possibly pre-printing they planned to get those certifications/listings but post-printing they decided not to. (or couldn't).

As for the red lion:

http://www.btha.co.uk/about_us/toy_safety_guide_lionmark.php

Quote:
The Lion Mark. This is a symbol of safety and quality, backed by a Code of Practice, developed by the British Toy & Hobby Association (BTHA) and used only by members of this association. Toys bearing the Lion Mark have been made to the highest standards currently in force in Britain and the European Community (BS 5665/EN71). The symbol is also used by "Approved Lion Mark Retailer" shops to indicate that all toys sold in that shop conform to the Lion Mark standard

The CE is pretty much the same, but from a European (rather than British) organization: http://www.ce-marking.org/directive-88378eec-toys.html

Why cover them? Well, they can only display them if the toys have been actually certified as safe, and maybe the toys hadn't yet been certified by those boards. That's pretty much the only reason I can think of.
