Since I was a kid I loved jigsaw puzzles, and with time I moved on to more serious themes and higher number of pieces. I usually frame them and put them somewhere on the wall when I complete them.

The problem is, I am having a very hard time finding any war/military or even history based jigsaws in both eu and us (that are at least 1000pieces). Only ones I've found are crowded tank/airplane 'lists' from eurographics, and some american civil war puzzles from buffalo games/white mountain puzzles made by artist mort kunstler. Others are mostly smaller (up to 500) with warplanes as a theme. Oh yes, and ravensburger battle at algiers that i got for my bday

Why arent there more military puzzles?
There are literally thousands of scenes that could be used as a great puzzle material - from landings at omaha, attack on pearl harbor over waterloo to jan sobieski's charge on the turkish forces at vienna - so why you cant get any of the like?

My wife and kids also love puzzles. Personally, I don't understand why anyone would cut up a perfectly good picture.

To me, it's the pride when you see a perfectly good picture that was sliced up and then put back together, knowing that you did the latter.
It feels almost as if you made the whole thing

I've wondered the same thing. Maybe it's because jigsaw images tend to be lighthearted or serene. Ever try to find a print and cut service online?

It's not what you're asking for, but have a look at Situation 4 anyway. Best of both worlds - build a jigsaw puzzle while fighting a battle. I see a number of people have copies for trade and there are some inexpensive copies in the Marketplace listings.

Theworks puzzles are the only ones I have not been aware of, and I must admit they look rather nice. Unfortunately it seems they only ship within UK, so if there is anyone willing to receive the puzzles, then mail them to Croatia, gimme a buzz!

A couple of years ago I had the picture below as a 1000 pieces jigsaw puzzle.

It is a scene from the 4 day battle of 1666 and the jigsaw was only available here in the NL and, I believe, in limited numbers. I glued it on cardboard then, which was a failure and I locked it away. Last month I removed the cardboard and fixed it on sticky expensive cardboard. The jigsaw is now on display in my living room. A couple of weeks I was lucky enough to find an unused copy in a second hand store for 50 eurocents.

Also last month I did the charge of the Scots greys during the battle of Waterloo and is currently on display too. The jigsaw is available from Gibsons Games, a brand I recently discovered with some great themes. During the solving process I noticed the relaxing effect of doing jigsaws. My third jigsaw I am currently working on is a couple of steam trains of the same brand. There are also jigsaws themed with the Battle of Britain and one with the Dambusters.
