After briefly glimpsing thru the rule book, doing my due diligence on relevant websites, and (wasting my life) watching 5 minutes of the youtube gameplay vid:

This game seems to draw strongly from Cosmic Encounter's card play and El Grande's area control.

Mechanically it also incorporates 7 Wonder's card draft, A Game of Thrones Board Game's battle mechanics, Chaos in the Old World's faction tech tree, and Khemet's frantic melee where losing a battle is still okay.

...Am I on the right track here?

Not about the faction tech tree, there is none. All clans start out undifferentiated and are specialised through the cards you draft. Otherwise it sounds about right, though I don't see that much 7 Wonders in it beyond the drafting.

Midgard, on which Blood Rage is based, already had the card drafting and predates 7 Wonders by a few years (and there was Fairy Tale before that).

And Notre Dame. And Magic: The Gathering. Drafting is hardly new.

In Magic, it's not really part of the game (pretty much like deck construction is not deck building). Notre Dame came months after Midgard, I think.
