My google-fu fails me here. Does anyone have a copy of the rules in Japanese? I have a friend in Japan that I want to get into boardgaming, and I think she and her family would really enjoy Carcassonne. I think that having to translate the rules herself, though, would be a determent to playing (I mean...I wouldn't want to translate a game before I played it...especially if I've never played board games before).

Anyone out there know of such a thing?

#13 is a link to Carcassonne: The Castle not the base game.

An overview is at http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~gr9s-mr/CC_online.html

Of course, you can always search for:
カルカソンヌ
カルカソンヌ ルール

Unfortunately, Carcassonne is one of those games where reading the rules doesn't quite measure up to the experience of the game itself. When you think about it, the rules are no more advanced than pick a tile, place a tile, place a meeple (if desired).

Mobius is the importer for Japan and will have a set of translated rules with the game. Their game entry is at: http://www.mobius-games.co.jp/HansimGluck/carcassonne.htm

You (or your friend) might want to contact Mobius also to see if they might pass along the rules for consideration.

I'll go check those out...I apparently katakanaized it wrong...I was going for Kaakaason or Kaakason...(Japanese is too difficult to enable on the PC ).

Umm, not really. These days very easy to add the language support and the input module also.

Oh...I have it installed...but I'm too lazy to deal with turning it on. I don't know if there's something wrong with my version of Windows, but it requires me to go to the menu, select JP, turn on the toolbar (so I can get to the right button), click the input mode button, and switch it to hiragana input mode (it defaults to writing in English).

Of course, now that I'm on my Mac, I just Command+Option+Space...

Left Alt + Shift toggles inputs languages for me in Windows.
And you can set hot keys to jump straight to English and/or Japanese

Mine still defaults to using English, even when it's in Japanese mode...so you still have to open up the toolbar and select hiragana input mode.
