Hi,

Time for the standard question: I'll be going to downtown Chicago for a quick business trip. Are they any worthwhile game stores in that area or nearby?

Thanks.

There is a great game store called Games Plus in Mt. Prospect, a northwest suburb of Chicago. You can take the Metra train from Union Station in Downtown Chicago to Mt. Prospect; the Mt. Prospect station is about 2 blocks from Games Plus. Weekend fares for Metra are fairly cheap.

Games Plus is the only store near Chicago worth making a trip for. There are a couple of mall-type game stores around the city, but nothing interesting to the BGG crowd. I've heard there are a couple other decent stores even further out in the burbs, but Games Plus is already enough of a trip. It's a great store, though.

I totally agree... I'm from Australia and was visting family in Chicago... The lived fairly close to Games Plus... Its worth the trip.... I spent a load of money there... The Metra is really close only problem is that the metra into the city comes infrequently but apart from that really good place...

Try Blacksun Games http://www.blacksungameschicago.com They have a very friendly staff and many tables to game on. It is also a great place to meet local gamers.

I know this post is about 7 years too late, but if anyone comes across it the same way I did, I'd like to have some more accurate info out there.

I know of three stores that are actually IN Chicago (sorry, 'burbs, you're just too far out). The first is on Belmont just west of Clark, so in the Wrigleyville-ish area. I forget the name, and it deal mostly in Magic and other card games, but does have some board games. Then there's Cat and Mouse in Bucktown. This is a great little store that runs a lot of neat events, and sometimes has unique connections (they had a relationship with the publisher for Nefarious and almost always had a copy! Too bad I shuffled my feet...). I like it a lot, however it's tiny compared to our third entry: The Dice Dojo.

This place has been doing so well they bought out the storefront next door to create a gaming space. There's a HUGE selection of board games, RPGs, minis, cards, you name it. I go here when I want to find a game. That's up in Edgewater.

I hope this helps someone out!
