It goes against all my baseball knowledge on this but this situation came up and I was overruled but I would like clarification
Situation. Fast guy at third. Average guy at first. Average guy at the plate threatening a single.
I play a defense card that says double play remove two base runners that are not fast. Of course I want to double up the guy at first and the plate that are average. But I'm told the guy at the plate is not a base runner.
I reluctantly concede the point but I still think I'm right about how the card is intended to work.
I see where you coming from, but remember that the hits in the hit box are threatened and will only be awarded (or cancelled) in the opponent's turn. So basicaly at the time of the double play they have not taken place but are "in the future".
(After all a card is not a single at bat, but a highlight reel of what that player would/could do in the game)
This is one Action that the baseball purist will find confusing since it does not involve the batter. I want to use a lot of baseball terms in the game and try to represent them in a thematic way. Because the game is not a simulation I am trying to give the "feel" of baseball.
Manuel has it exactly right and echoes Mike's thematic explanation.
Baseball in 2045 has many differences to today's baseball; however, overall the game play and theme are very rewarding and I have heard so many comments that "it feels like baseball" that I believe it does it very, very well.
Enjoy the game!

Thank you for the clarification. I realize that it's not a simulation but I just had a hard time accepting the ruling because of baseball.
I get what you were going for and accept your ruling for game balance reasons probably. But to have double play not involve the batter is way weird to me considering the double play involves the batter like 95% of the time probably
You should have had the card cancel a hit and remove a base runner in my opinion. Of course it's your game.
Other than that disagreement of the rules I did very much enjoy the game and ordered a copy already. Thanks for chiming in.
