Saturday: Grimslingers -This is a cool game. I'd definitely like to play more. Citadels -I want to try this with the expansion cards. Cool game, but the King player always picks the King, which is annoying, because that player always gets to pick first. Cheaty Mages! -This one was really cool. Like Shinobi Clans, but shorter and simpler, which I like about it. RoboRally -Second time playing. I really like this one. We should play it more often. Hangman at Denny's Snake Oil -This was kind of fun, but I wouldn't play it a lot. Carcassonne
Combat Commander, Up Front, Fields of Fire, Cats were once worshipped as gods and they haven't forgotten this, The Raven King (game publisher) ... that's me!
Slywester Janik, awarded the Krzyż Walecznych (Polish Cross of Valour), August 1944
Major board game convention and games during lunch hours with co-workers helped me get a lot of plays in last week ...
7 x Biblios 3 x Combat Commander: Pacific 2 x The Duke 2 x Hansa Teutonica 2 x Morgan's A'Comin'! 2 x Patchwork 2 x Sushi Go! 2 x Up Front 1 x Expedition: Northwest Passage 1 x Formula D 1 x König von Siam 1 x Soviet Dawn 1 x A Very English Murder: Murder at Woodperry Hall (see art below) 1 x The Walled City: Londonderry & Borderlands
Plus I scored a few great trades this past week (Egizia, Hansa Teutonica, Macao, Amyitis and Normandy 44) and the final character art for my murder-mystery game is coming in from my LA-based artist. Excellent week all-round.
1x 6-player game of Star Realms using the admirals and emperor variant. This was actually pretty cool. I died first but had some good cards which helped my emperor when I passed one of them to him after dying. Lesson of the day? Don't kill the admiral with the better deck first.
1x Ghost Stories First time playing. We lost in about 30 minutes.
Sunday the 15th
1x Village with both the Village Inn and Village Port expansions. My wife and I both enjoyed the new Port expansion and look forward to playing with it again soon.
2x Agricola One of our all-time favorites using the vegimeeples.
Had the brother and sister in law over on Wednesday and it just seemed easier to bust out Cards Against Humanity for the first time in over a year. They hadn't played it before, so I think this will be something that might come out a little bit more often. I've integrated the first expansion pack into the deck, so I can never really say when exactly the expansion will be played.
Sushi Go! was a birthday gift and my wife and I want to field test games before trying to introduce them to others. We played three games in a row just the two of us and loved it. I think it'll be a popular option when we want to play something but don't have time with a fussy baby to really set anything up. I have read about a slight variation on how the hands are exchanged that could work, because my wife definitely tried to block any play I made on Sashimi or Tempura, though I did get a couple out for points.
