I wonder if this means they will have the rights to the NEW expanded universe. New being the fact that based on a recent article, Disney and LucasFilms has disowned all previous expanded universe as canon and will be publishing approximately 20 new books (novels, kids books, weapon and ship encyclopedias) prior to the release of SW VII which will now make up the NEW expanded universe canon.

Yea, so the 20 new novels will bridge the chronological gap between VI and VII but the first one doesn't even come out until September. That being said I highly doubt many will be released before the actual movie. Disney canon is all flat nothing is more canon than the rest. If FFG has the rights for VII then I see nothing holding them back from making ships for the new novels.

Exciting news this is!

Let's hope they get better reviews than the first shitty sounding one they released.

A New Dawn was good. Just bought Heir to the Jedi (It's a collector's thing).

If you haven't finished The Clone Wars I would suggest holding out on Rebels. Although Rebels is awesome(at least in my humble opinion).

I'd be down with seeing the Ghost from Rebels in Miniatures.

To be fair - that "20 books" number was debunked on some other sites. The number isn't 20 "novels," but rather 20 "print objects," which includes things like kids books and (I beleive) comics.

Frankly... I'm a bit dubious as to how long they can float material from things like picture book "adventures of R2D2" as canonically equivalent to the movies, TV show(s), etc., but for the short time being, it is.

That said... FFG seems to be doing a cherry picking approach to EU material, so I see nothing stopping them from mining both the original EU and New Canon (unless there's some sort of license issue there).

From what I have seen the comics have been looking pretty good, and if they are ever released in a collected form I would not hesitate to pick them up. So far I have been optimistic.

I hadn't and was watching Rebels. No major spoilers yet but some characters do crossover. Now need to finish TCW before Rebels comes back.
As an aside you follow Xwing Miniatures Maine, correct? We're doing a Star Wars gaming weekend the 2nd and 3rd of May in Scarborough. Just FYI.
