Thanks to a tip in the W&G forums, I got turned onto this deal on Lords of Waterdeep. This game cannot be sold by online stores that do not have brick & mortar storefronts, so my options were limited. The next best price I found was from 401 Games in Toronto, and that was $42 before shipping.

Indigo is offering it for $35.74, free shipping in Canada, and cheap HST because the game is considered a book for taxation purposes! What a win!

This is the best price currently available in Canada, to my knowledge. It also beats most American prices when accounting for the exchange rate.

I had a $25 Indigo gift card someone gave me about five months ago and had no idea what to spend it on. After being pointed toward this deal, I used it and just picked up LoW for $12 and change.

Shipping times are slow, but free. I'm in no rush.

They also have the expansion, Scoundrels of Skullport, for $29.43.

Lords of Waterdeep: http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-ca/books/lords-of-waterdeep...

Scoundrels of Skullport: http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-ca/books/product/9780786964...

Enjoy!

Yeah, this *special* price has been on for a year or so.
There also a 37% on others DnD boardgames like Legend of Drizzt and Castle Ravenloft.
Ah yeah and pathfinder also.

It just feel like an inventory mistake that they never caught, all of theses games being classified as books and stuff.

Thanks! Purchased it myself.

I called to find out if I could pick up at the store but the sale price only applies to online sales. In store prices are not on sale. The teller said it had something to do with staying competitive with Amazon online.

What?

...

That aside...
As mentioned this is the deal Chapters always has on WotC boardgames. But it is very nice and sharing it again certainly helps someone.

This is. This isn't a hot deal really, it's the regular price on these items at Chapters.

It is true, according to the owner of an online-only store who cannot get inventory of this game for the reason I just described. Want his name and email to discuss it further?

Why is everyone so nasty on this forum?

It's not people being nasty. It is you being overly sensitive.

You posted a "deal" that's been known about for a long time and made an incorrect statement in that post.

Maybe you want to discuss with the online only store owner why it is available here - http://www.greatboardgames.ca/lords-of-waterdeep.html and http://www.woodforsheep.ca/products/lords-of-waterdeep. Yeah, those are online only shops.

Probably because they have back stock of it, dude, or are other rising claiming they have a storefront - in some cases, likely in violation of their retailer agreements with WotC.

How do I become a retailer for Wizards of the Coast products?
Please contact one of our Authorized Distributors in your area to discuss ordering Wizards of the Coast products! Additional requirements such as having a physical brick-and-mortar retail location and meeting your distributor's specific qualifications typically apply.

Back stock? How do they get back stock if they aren't allowed to carry it in the first place?

Pretty much every decent online retailer in Canada I can find carries it. Are they all violating their agreements?

I don't understand why you are so ardently defending something that you are clearly wrong about.

Oh, and Chapters shipping times aren't slow if they have it in stock. They usually show up a business day or two after ordering if you're not in some remote location.

You stated a factual inaccuracy. We corrected you. And did not do so nastily. Your source appears to be incorrect. But this is all second hand knowledge, on all parts. My issue is how you state it as clear and unquestionable fact when it is certainly not so, and have now taken a defensive stance of questioning our character instead of opening your opinion to "well, this certainly is more complicated than my source suggested."

I actually did a bit of leg work and could not confirm if most of the popular online retailers in Canada had storefronts. Almost all list a physical address under contact us, which could be a tiny storefront.

But BoardGameBliss.com definitely is online only and definitely has Lords of Waterdeep, and I've never heard of anyone having any problems stocking WotC products regardless of store format. (as opposed to Game Salute, where its a clear and well known problem)

Now if you ask me some people have been a little bit snotty about the fact that this deal is not in any way new. But that is both a distinct issue, and as I mentioned in my original totally-not-nasty-if-you-ask-me reply hey, more people that know the merrier.

But I think the root cause of hostility is your original and subsequent posts have an air of total authority on the subject to them, which most everyone here find off putting and undeserved. Pure conjecture on my part though.

Lets all chill out a bit and be friends again.

So I called Wizards of the Coast this morning and spoke to a specialist in their support department for retailers and got the details.

Wizards of the Coast does not supply their products to stores that do not have a brick and mortar presence. When I explained the situation and asked him how online-only stores in Canada were getting large volumes of their products to sell, he speculated that they either go through a distributor of some sort or, as I also speculated, "may have a huge amount of back stock from before this policy was in effect." Direct quote.

So, Wizards of the Coast does not distribute to online-only stores. This is an incontrovertible fact. The phone number is +1-425-204-8069. Press 1 for retailer support.

Online stores in Canada may be selling Lords of Waterdeep, e.g., obtained from third-party distributors, likely for a markup. Online-only stores are (obviously) not regulated in terms of selling in the secondary market for things like MTG singles, etc. They cannot sell sealed MTG products they obtain from WotC. Again, perhaps they have some other distribution outlet, perhaps they bought large amounts of stock at an earlier time, or perhaps they lie to WotC. Any of those is viable.

--

If you do not care for this "hot deal" because it is apparently Indigo.ca's usual price, then by all means, do not read this or buy the product from them. Obviously, several people have and seem to be pleased they did. I understand there's a fire sale on Monopoly, though...

Defensive much?

The fact WotC doesn't distribute to online stores doesn't mean anything to this conversation because other distributors do distribute WotC stuff to Online stores.

So your initial statement is still false:
"This game cannot be sold by online stores that do not have brick & mortar storefronts"

Yes it can be and yes it is sold by online stores that do not have brick & mortar storefronts.

It doesn't matter if they get their stock from WotC or a distributor, they still can and do sell this game.

This statement remains demonstrably false.

I think that is the only point anyone was trying to bring to your awareness.

It does matter in that no middle man means cheaper pricing.

But good lord is this line of discussion boring.

Thought cheaper pricing is exactly what we are talking about here and it's the online store that has the cheaper price, the one with a middle man

Yes, I bought it + expansion a year and half ago, I was surprised as well, and worse, they shipped the game and expansion in separate box, separate shipment, and the boxes were huge!!! It's been a while since I've taken a look, I did not know about Pathfinder, thanks.

But they do have, unless I fail to see the difference between Chapters online and Indigo in the streets, even though their web adress is chapters.indigo.ca?
They probably get their stock through Indigo first and resell through Chaps

I have a chapters and an indigo were I live. The reason why it takes two weeks is because like many have said, it comes from a store front rather than their central hub.
