Just a reminder to all those Americans in the crowd.

Please get out and vote. Regardless of your political views (whether you are pro- arrrh or pro- ninja ), the more people that participate, the better the democracy works.

Hey until we adopt a cool Aussie style voting system, we will always be stuck with the same 2 party system of arrrh and ninja

I resent that people tell me I'm throwing my vote away just because I write in dead people. For real. I've voted for Bucky Fuller, John Maynard Keynes and Karl Marx more often than any live candidate (when there is no decent choice, which is 9 times out of 10). So, I guess I vote zombie.

So, if I can't even tell you a single candidate's name, should I bother voting?

No. Unless you want to write yourself in.

If you can't tell a single candidate's name, you should at least bother reading the paper. I know that for me personally, my days of being blissfully uninformed are long over.

Ok, ok, so I could tell you a few names since they kept interrupting my football watching ofer the weekend with their silly mud slinging commercials, but I couldn't tell you what they're running for or what all the offices they're running for even do.

I agree, people should vote. But only those people who support the same political party as I do. Everyone else, uh, go play a game, or something.

ooh sounds like they over-targeted your area When I'm canvassing its normally arranged so we don't go to anywhere more than twice. Once to find out if they are going to vote for you. Second time, if they are going to vote for you, on the day to remind them to vote.

Of course, my political party being the Liberal Democrats, we don't have many resources....overtargetting is the least of our worries.laugh

"We have no political parties. We've never had much of them -- I mean the Democrats, the Republicans. We have one party -- we have the party of essentially corporate America. It has two right wings, one called Democratic, one called Republican. So in the absence of politics, with a media that is easy to manipulate and, in the hands of very few people with interests in wars and oil and so on, I don't see how you get the word out, but one tries because there is nothing else to be done."

—Gore Vidal, interviewed by Mark Davis, Dateline, SBS TV, Australia, March 12, 2003.

What does it say about the state of your democracy when a known pedophile gets 48 % of the vote (hey, his name on the ticket) for a House seat? And what does it say about the Democrat that nearly lost to the creep?

Of course that IS Florida.

I you have no interest in the government of your country that's just fine.

Just don't complain about what your government does to you, to your family, to your friends, to your future, and to other countries.

I understand if you are apathetic towards the little role you have, but not voting at all, not even for a "green" or "rhino" or "marijuana" party [or whatever the American equivalent is], just puts more power in the hands of the politicians that want the status quo to stay that way.
