Our friends absolutely devour the triangle wooden game that is on every Cracker Barrel table.

We are looking for board games that are similar in nature, however for the 4 of us, and that play in approx. 30 min (because they have two young children).

We would sure appreciate any recommendations you have.

Ta Yü. However, the 4-player game is played in partnerships rather than as 4 individual players.

You may also enjoy Through the Desert, which plays pretty quickly once you know the rules.

Also check out Tsuro or Tsuro of the Seas.

Advanced Search (at top of the page), setting to search the Abstract subdomain with 4 players, gives more good ideas, e.g.

Hey, That's My Fish!
Blokus 3D

BTW there are many good multiplayer abstract games playable with Looney Pyramids and simple rules, e.g. Volcano, Pikemen, Stack Control, etc.

Thanks much to everyone for your great suggestions.

We will be researching all of these.

We have a question about a game that came up in a search - Ricochet Robots. Would that fit the criteria?

Thanks, again, so much.

+1 for Ubongo. Ubongo 3-D is great but you'll likely only find the german version. The game is not language dependent so a PDF of the english rules and your all set.

I'm guessing you meant to write some other title instead of the primary/default title...?

It's by far my favourite abstract game, it perfectly matches your brief, and I've taken it into schools to play with kids and it always gets a very positive response. Unusually for an abstract game, It's just FUN!

It's a good game, but not very social; hard concentration under time pressure. Might be a bit difficult for small children as well.

That was actually the game I came in to recommend. Butsudoka is correct that it tends to be a very quiet game of people concentrating intently on the board until someone announces "eight!" or "thirteen" or "thirty-seven, I think? I hope I can remember this." My 11-year-old loves it and has for the last two or three years, but I think it would be a bit much for most kids under 9 or 10. It also has the advantage that it's very easy to step out for a turn or two and then back in, or join a game that's already started.
