The rules P.15 "When a ship attacks a squadron, it can perform one
attack against each squadron inside the firing arc
and at attack range of the attacking hull zone."

I don't understand this rule.

Ships use their anti-squadron factor when shooting at fighters.
a) For every ship in wave-1 thats blue dice. So is the anti-squadron range for all wave-1 ships the blue/medium range?
Or
b) Does it mean a Gladiator firing against squadrons in an arc where it only has black dice would be restricted to the black/short range. Whilst a VSD could use the red/long range against squadrons ???

Blue/medium range per the anti-squadron rating on the ships card.
The primary hull zone weapons are separate from the anti-squadron weapons.

Think of it as a WWII battleships main turret mounted guns are the hull weapons that would be used against other large ships and the light caliber guns that are used for anti-aircraft defense are the anti-squadron rating.

Also note that there is a much greater range for a ships AS rating compared to the range 1 that squadrons must get into in order to attack. Forces the squadrons to try to stay outside of AS range and then dash in to get into range attack a ship. Since you can't move and shoot during the squadron phase you will need to place them in the likely path the ship will move next turn or use ship orders to move and attack using ships squadron value.

Its A. I suspect they worded it that way in case of future cards that may increase your anti-squadron range from specific hull zones.
