The rules state that when you crack a safe, you can draw a tool card and:

A silent alarm is triggered as well - Permanently increase the movement die for the guard on the current floor and each floor below by one.

Does this silent alarm mean to place an alarm token on the safe tile, and the guard will now head toward the safe tile (at the new elevated speed + 1 for each active alarm including the new alarm on the safe tile)?

Thanks

No - the guard continues patrolling as usual, but you increase the die by 1 for the guard on the floor and every floor below.

Really? It doesn't say anything in the rules, but (thematically) I imagine the guard would be high-tailing it to the cracked safe, trying to catch a thief red-handed.

Thematically it does make sense to have the guard pursue when a safe is cracked. However, not having the guard pursue may make it more challenging for all the burglars to get up the stairs because you won't have the luxury of knowing the guard will be headed to the safe.

We had this same question tonight. We all agreed with both interpretations, but ultimately decided to go with the reasoning that a silent alarm tells the guard that something is wrong, but doesn't know where.

A final ruling by Tim would be nice.

the guards only speed up, no alarm is triggered, it's just a "silent alarm" for thematic explaination
