Getting clobberred 93-31 (0 VPC) today got me to wondering how close that was to the maximum possible score.


145: Maximum score (w/ no VPC)

Doing this exercise made me realize something funny: it's possible to have a never-ending game state. One player (or players) get all 55 tiles in his (their) construction zone(s), and refuse to build. As long as players all have no colored start worlds, the game could easily go on forever. Alternate simpler version: if everyone always explores, the game never ends. :)


Feel free to add your own ideas/higher maximum scores!

With collusion it's easy to come up with never-ending states. Player A always chooses Settle but never puts any tiles on the world construction zone, Player B always chooses Ship but never chooses Consume, etc.

But it shouldn't be possible for a player to lock out the game by hoarding all the tiles -- see the questions related to the bag running out of tiles on page 10.

Yes, never-ending game states are only a problem if getting into them can look beneficial for all players and once you're in them whoever deviates will be at a disadvantage. If that can happen (e.g. Chess) then it should be declared a draw, but it's best if it can be avoided. I doubt it could happen in Race or Roll.

Pedantic comment failed! Rather than Consume they choose to Trade instead, gaining no VP, perpetuating the game.
