I know there are a lot of Geek lists about "Games my wife/girlfriend likes" etc. but I'm wondering if a survey has ever been done of women who are registered on BGG and their top games?

There's an old GeekList (2 year ago almost to the day) that is a good place to start. Maybe some of the new women on the Geek would like to add to it.

There have been some GeekLists on the subject. There is The Quintessential Women's Games and What THEY Like Recommendation GeekList (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/9906) and (to a lesser extent) What Women Want or What Games Geek Women Want http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/14922.

I don't think gender is part of the BGG database (at least I don't recall giving that information when I registered). It's too bad, because it would be interesting to run numbers like these: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/17413 to see which games are most highly rated by men and by women.

Lots of other factors would be interesting to see as well: ratings by age, by continent/country/state, by profession, by religion, etc.

You can see the breakdown of ratings by country on each game page under statistics by clicking one of the "?".

Oh, I can see it coming... the geeklist to end all geeklists, answering the crucial questions (warning, I'm throwing PC out the window in a desperate attempt to be amusing):

1) Are lawyers rules lawyers?
2) Do christians prefer games without bluffing or backstabbing?
3) Do accountants like Knizia?
4) Is player elimination popular amongst army men?
5) How do african americans rate Puerto Rico?

I daresay, let's have FUN!

This list, from January 2006:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/12958

started out in concept as a "wife" list but quickly became a women gamers' preferences list.

I recently did a list about games I play with my husband and how they play as 2-player games. That's not specifically what you're asking about, but it is written more from a gamer viewpoint than a "wife" viewpoint, so you might find something useful there too:
