Does anyone else feel like the Sol player needs a better ally power?

It seems like what they grant goes a bit unused. Maybe the true ally benefit is being able to claim victory alongside their win in the 8th turn?

I was thinking about creating a variant rule where Sol allies would get a slight boost to their combat scores if they were adjacent to Sol locations.

i.e.
If you're a Sol ally, and you are doing battle in one of the Sol spawn points, you get a 1 point bonus to your combat score for each adjacent location occupied solely by the Sol. It would max out at 3 points.

Kinda like having Sol be their own version of the Mercenaries card.

If you want a simple and thematic boost have the Sol & their allies lose only half their units to bombardments. Potentially powerful if a shield gets destroyed.

The Ally power for Sol can be very swingy. It's hard to tell when it will happen, but when it does, it's extremely powerful. It's as if you get a free move, plus it kills enemies at influence drops.

The OTHER part people don't realize when they ally with Sol if they get a lot of other passive benefits. Sol can now tell them where the bombardments will happen, or at least tell them where not to move. They also get an alternate win condition.

Too many people only look at active abilities of each race and forget the passive benefits they gain. Sol isn't flashy, but they do have pluses to consider when allying.

The win condition part is definitely true, but since there are no secret conversations in Rex, telling your allies where not to move risks informing your opponents of that too.

O no, I wasn't implying that Sol could whisper anything over. What would happen is that Sol's allies would ask Sol if they should go for influence or not and Sol would just take their pieces and tell them where to put them. It becomes even more powerful with Jol-nar's ability to predict when Sol Offensives will happen.
