I saw a video about this game (maybe youtube) where they were discussing the psychology of the game. Apparently, rock was the most popular starting move for a long time, until people realized this. One person actually said, "Paper is the new rock." laugh

I found this popular media reference in the article to be completely random:

Quote:
Author Ian Fleming had his fictional secret agent James Bond play the game in Japan, in "You Only Live Twice."

What a strange reference!

On this site, there is actually a link with the words, "RPS Stuff". I didn't click on the banner. I doubt, however, that I will be able to stop my mind from grappling with the question of what type of 'gear' is essential to avid rock, paper, scissors player.

Don't you find you always lose to the "ROCK!" players? I can see you would make the cut if the field was into Paper as the New Rock.

Hey, don't knock it. If Dr. Knizia adds an Egyptian theme and an innovative scoring mechanic to it, it'll be in the BGG top 50 in no time!

...had a good chuckle at the RPS 101 extensions.

I'm sure Hasbro/WOTC can make a CCG out of that which would strip people out of a few million $$$ in no time.

Ok... still LMAO at the 5050 outcomes of this game.

RPS101 NEEDS to be on BGG.. It would be my 11 rated game for sure.... forever and ever.

http://www.umop.com/rps101/alloutcomes.htm

Just a few of my faves:

Electricity bills Home
Dynamite explodes Turnip
Tornado wrecks home of Cockroach
Quicksand becomes Pit
Pit too deep for Whip
Gun robs Money
Law protects rare Spider
Tank more direct than Poison
Laser backs up Computer
Medusa petrifies Porcupine
Heart like a Rock
Robot steps on Snake
Math class denies Sky
Video Game restarts after Death
Devil possesses Baby
Gold enthralls Woman
Dragon eats Prince
Satan laughs at Scissors
Mountain challenges old King
Prayer starts School
Alien breaks physical Law
TV stolen despite Chain
Toilet holds UFO
Grass inspires Nuke rally
Cat allergy kills Alien
Man flips Bird
Woman spends Money
Axe cleaves Wolf
Rock smooshes Fish
Gun hijacks Car

This game would be deeper and more sublime than Go, Chess and Tic-Tac-Toe combined.

It's the Alpha and Omega... The ONE.

Well, almost...he added a Lord of the Rings theme and got it in the top fifty (#38 to be exact).

Hehe...I kid, I kid...(I actually love LOTR:TC!)

Uh No.

The official expansion added the "bomb", which is the rock with the thumb stuck up.

Bomb blows up paper,
Bomb blows up rock,
Scissors defuses bomb by cutting fuse(thumb).

It was an uneeded expansion that ruined the balance of the game.
