Patrol : (6), cannot choose the patrol. (12) West African Coast. Since it’s a type VII, it’s changed to atlantic.
Transit #1 : (7) No encounter
Transit #2 : (12) Random Event since it’s the first time I roll a 12 on this patrol. (8) Luftwaffe Recon has found a nice ship for me.
Encounter #1 : (4) (42) Large Freighter Zealandic, 10600 tons, 4 hit points
Time of day (1): Day
Round 1 : Surface attack at close range. I’ll will fire both deck guns, then I’ll decide how many torpedoes are required from the forward tubes.
Shot 1: Need a 8 or less to hit. No modifiers apply (3) Hit (4) 1 point of damage done.
Shot 2: (8) hit (3) 1 point of damage.
I decide to fire 2 forward torpedoes, hoping it will be enough. If not then I’ll use the aft tube.
Tube 1: Need a 8 or less to hit. No modifiers apply. (4) Hit (4), explodes (5) for 1 point of damage.
Tube 2: (3) hit, (3), explodes (4) for 1 point of damage. The Zealandic is sinking.

(3) (62) Small Freighter Olinda. I already sunk this ship on a previous patrol. So I re-roll (34) Small Freighter Tweed, 2700 tons, 2 hit points. Under escort
Time of day (5): Night
Round 1 : Night surface attack at medium range. Fire 2 torpedoes from the forward tubes at the Lehigh. 1 G7a and 1 G7e. I hope to be able to follow the convoy and find a bigger pray.
Tube 1 : Need a 7 or less to hit (-1 to dice roll due Night surface attack). (7) Hit, (1), it’s a dud.
Tube 2 : Need a 7 or less to hit (-1 on dice roll for night attack, and +1 for a G7E at medium range. (5) Hit,(5 ) explodes, (5) 1 point of damage.
Escort Detection #1 : Need a 8 or less to avoid detection. No modifiers apply. (4) Not Detected.
I attempt to follow the convoy. I need 4 or less to succeed. (2) Success.
Encounter #3: (2) (56) Small Freighter Ashby, 4900 tons, 2 hit points. (3) (13) Small Freighter Stanholme, 2500 tons, 2 hit points. (3) (24) small Freighter Trevisa, 1800 tons, 2 hit points. (3) (36) Small Freighter Bengore Head, 2600 tons, 2 hit points. Under escort

I roll for additional flooding before the next round of combat. (1) Flooding stopped.

Ouch, that was nasty. Final result. 4 patrols, 5 ships sunk, 37400 tons.

Hey Bruno,
Well, after reading your reports, it seems like you probably did your first patrol correctly, or mostly correctly, anyway. I guess you just had one of those lucky runs where it all seems to go right.

However, things can go badly pretty quick, as you found out on this one. Better luck next run, I hope! Although 4 patrols is not ahistorical. Many boats only made that many, or less.

Heya Greg,
Bruno said in another post he forgot to use 42-43 drm for Bay of Biscay chart. It greatly helped his U-boat survival and explain why the whole campaign may have felt easier to him than what we know it is.
