Hey guys

Can anyone tell me which international website is the best to use cost wise? Including both international shipping + a fair price for the games.
Up until now I have just bought from mind games in brisbane, but the prices are so high, and the range isn't very good.
Any advice would be appreciated!!
Thanks

You either need to make a large order to get shipping cost per item down (amazon.com/.de coolstuffinc etc) or use a website with free shipping (ozgameshop bookdespository etc).

It's tough. Shipping to Australia can be a killer for a lot of stores.

Locally I like Games Empire and Advent Games

As for overseas stores, I tend to look at 3:

OzGameShop - Based in the UK, their prices are in AUD and inclusive of shipping (for orders over $50). You won't get the best prices here, but you know you won't get stung on shipping.

Amazon - Good shipping prices especially if you combine orders with lots of other games/books/CDs etc. I had a great few weeks ordering from Amazon last year when they had a free shipping promotion.

Cardhaus - Surprisingly good shipping price to Australia as long as the game box is small/light enough. If it is over a certain size or weight, the shipping price jumps steeply (like $18 to $60 steeply)

Good luck

Postage from Aus to NZ is more expensive than from the US ( last time I looked) so even trades are out.

Take a look at https://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/159272/ - although it says "2013", the list has been kept up to date.

There is also an online price comparison tool specifically for boardgames, see http://georgina.org/boardgames/

And reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/boardgames/comments/2hv3km/

Within Australia I recommend Milsims.com.au, but beware: their website lists many items available for backorder or "coming soon" that are not available for months. If something is urgent, phone them to check availability. Backorders can be cancelled with no penalty if you find something elsewhere.

Next choice is always Julian Clark (unhalfbricking.com). Cheap, and an evangelist for Eurogames.

I can vouch for Classic Comics (on eBay at http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=4&cam...), Joe Dodgy's Dice and Games (www.joedodgy.com.au/), Advent Games (www.adventgames.com.au/) and Games Empire (www.gamesempire.com.au/).

Overseas... is challenging. Big orders with shipping split among lots of items are the way to go. Consider getting a group of people together to do a once-off order, or to use a mail consolidation/forwarding service; but it is a lot of effort. Make sure the combined value stays below $1000, otherwise you will have to pay duty and all the effort is wasted.

"Bookshops":
Amazon.de (yes, in German) can be amazing if you take the time to search for deals among all the affiliate sellers. Recommended.
I have used Book Depository with excellent results, bu some people have been unhappy with their packaging. Caveat emptor.
Fishpond.com.au has boardgames, but the site search is difficult to use. Shipping is usually cheap or free and the packaging is adequate. Worth a look.
Amazon in the USA has not been too good - items have arrived damaged and it has been incredibly slow to resolve. I avoid them now.

Actual "Game" shops:
http://www.milan-spiele.de/ (German). Simply brilliant, rarely beaten on price or range of items. They list English language editions separately. Will do combo/bulk orders and pack them well. Recommended without hesitation.
http://www.ludikbazar.com/ Amazing range (great for RPGs). Not sure about big orders, not the cheapest. Website is switchable to English.
http://www.giochiz.it/ (in Italian). Can be expensive and won't always ship outside the EU, but sometimes has bargains and sometimes is prepared to send here. Odd policies but worth a look.
http://giochinscatola.it/catalog/index.php (Italian). Huge range, not cheap, but will ship to Aus.
http://www.spiele-offensive.de/ (German). Many titles, mostly German editions. Happy to send outside the EU with DHL (so no PO Box addresses).

Otherwise, I have bought from https://www.boardgamegeek.com/user/dastierchen and he is incredibly helpful, packs well, and gives advice about mail cost based on size/weight of games. https://www.boardgamegeek.com/user/robbirob is also really good. I recommend both of these gents.

I assume most (or all) German online shops will send international parcels with DHL who have quite reasonable rates:
http://www.dhl.de/en/paket/preise/preise-international.html (just FYI).

A 2kg parcel can be sent to Australia for EUR 15.90, this is without insurance/tracking though. So trades with Germans would be an option as well.

I have no idea of the Australian customs/toll though (In the EU we tend to forget about these things.) You might have to pay custom fees for receiving games from abroad.

(BGG also lists the level of language dependece for every game, check that if you order German versions.)

After shopping around a bit in the early days I now, almost exclusively, buy from ebay seller australia-games (http://www.ebay.com.au/usr/australia-games)

I just bought Splendor from them for $52.99 including shipping. I note Milsims have it listed for $48 + shipping: with standard shipping that takes you to $55.50 inclusive, with insured shipping that takes you to $60 inclusive. Not to mention the fact that at Milsims it's currently on back-order.

I'm not sure why australia-games doesn't rate a mention in these discussions (about the best places for Aussies to buy games) more often. Their range is very good, their delivery is always a dependable 5 to 10 business days, and getting back on topic, their prices are good and always include shipping.

There's other bricks and mortar options in Brisbane of course. Good Games have a shop in Spring Hill now. They will have or can get anything that Good Games Aus distributes.

Online I usually go for Games Empire, Games Capital, Games Paradise, or Milsims (with mixed results and occassional long waits). Advent Games is good too.

Thanks guys I'll check these out.

I've tried good games in spring hill but they seem to have a very limited stock which is annoying

I really want to buy Alien frontiers factions, but the only place I can find it online is Amazon and it doesn't ship to Australia for some reason. I also wanted to get Thunderstone advanced but can't find it anywhere in Australia so my only option is online/ overseas.

I've already given up on Milsims games because every game I've looked up has been on back order.

I want to support local Australian stores but they make it very difficult

Never... EVER... ordering a backorder from Milsims again!

I am officially past the 4 month mark waiting and no one gives a $#&@ in fact, several emails were just plain rude.

So disappointed, have been a customer for 15 years and ordered all over the country and lived near the store - I would only ever buy from instore now.

Even orders from the UK and US haven't ever taken 4 months.
