As it turns out, no-one presented me with the correct solution to the IBT-4 puzzle at BGG.CON'06. So, I am now opening up the puzzle to the rest of the BGG community.

As a reminder, the First Person to SEND ME GEEK-MAIL with the one word answer will receive:

an in-shrink copy of Silk Road
an autographed copy of Take Stock
a GeekGold Jackpot: 1 for each day the puzzle remains unsolved

Please include "IBT-4 Guess" in the subject line of your message.

You can see Part 1 of this puzzle here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/133281

Please add your thumb thumbsup to this thread if you are attempting to solve the puzzle, so we can all see who is working towards a solution. Thanks.

11/19/06: Congrats to Seth Jaffee who was the first user to submit the correct solution.

This image was handed out to anyone who came by the Z-Man Games Booth and asked for Part 2 of the IBT-4 puzzle.

btw I didn't see any submission rules... how to put an answer, and how often one is allowed?

(ps my previous post is a Tanga joke, not a suggested answer.)

Description at the top of this thread edited to say that users must PM me. Guess as many times as you like.

Alas, one only sends geekmail in the third person. One will not be receiving.

The GeekGold part of the equation...

In order to increase interest in this puzzle, the prize will now include a GeekGold portion. The amount will be 1 for each day that the puzzle remains unsolved. Since "Part 2" was made available at BGG.CON on 11/9, someone submitting the correct answer today will receive 6 (in addition to the two games). Tomorrow will be 7 , etc.

Happy Puzzling.

Perhaps the numbers from part one somehow become coordinates that give you letters from part two? I also note that there are quite a few "crappy Scrabble tile" letters in the chart: Q, Z and J, as well as non-letter symbols. This tells me that it's possible that even after pulling letters out of the chart, some additional legerdemain may be necessary to get the answer. Perhaps the key to the final step is the spider? 8 legs?

[snip]

I suspect this one's going to cross a threshold. No idea, no idea, no idea, got it. I doubt there's a middle step to solve.

I really have no idea how to approach this. Which is too bad, because Take Stock and Silk Road were interesting, but not enough for me to want to spend money on them.

Spoiler (click to reveal)
The first clue has 3 6 digit numbers. Something on the geek is identified by 6 digits.

Haven't got much further though.

I think I've got something. I wish we could buy hints from Simon like in the BGG.con Puzzle hunt.

8 legs, or 8 letters?

1 per tile, or per space?

Grr, I feel like I'm almost somewhere useful!

THANKS!

Sweet. I was pretty sure I knew the answer, and I was also pretty sure someone would have beaten me to it. I submitted another answer I thought was unlikely but also seemed to fit (but not as well as my main answer), and it turns out [i]that[/u] was it!

Thanks Simon and Z-man!
