Has anyone else heard if the supposed reprint of Age of Steam is going to happen by the end of the year?

It seems to take a year for a game to get reprinted once the decision has been made, and John Bohrer and Martin Wallace have been (publicly) squabbling about copyright, so it's not looking good.

Heard from a reliable source this evening that a re-print is looking likelier than it did at the time of that notorious thread. However, fans of the original would do well to seek out remaining copies as it won't be a straight re-print; there will be changes.

I failed to answer the original question. No way there will be a re-print this year.

It is being re-themed as a trading game taking place in 16th century Europe.

I hear that the name is being changed. I can't remember exactly what to, but "railyard tycoon" or "railroad mogul" or something like that, I think. And it'll have a huge board and lots of cute little plastic bits. It'll be great!

No, I have it on good authority that it will be called "Age of Copyright". Players carefully transport hand-copied versions of the rules from one town to the next. The value of each re-transportable block degrades in quality with each link in the route as errors are introduced into the text over time.

Actually, a Tron variant would be kind of cool..

It's being redone as a game of trading routes between ancient civilizations.

No more hex tiles, instead wooden tokens representing various beasts of burden, are placed on the map.

Gone is the loco level - instead you can transport goods to x cities if you have an ass, y if you've upgraded to horses, and camels are required to cross the desert.

You don't urbanize - instead you can upgrade nomad camps (which only accept gourds as incoming goods) to villages (which will accept not only gourds but also fake beards).

Martin and John have agreed to call it "Age of Donkeys".

Honest

Seriously, if and when the game gets reprinted I'm sure that we'll hear about it in plenty of time to get your orders in. Meanwhile, if you really want to play AoS you have a choice of either tracking down a new copy, buying one second-hand, or going for Railroad Tycoon instead. Certainly as of last week there was still at least one new copy in my local games shop. (www.spiritgames.co.uk, if anyone is interested)

Hurm. A map where changing track directions during a route build costs more. Yeah, that could be interesting...kinda fits in well with a another idea I've been musing on. I'll have to see what I can do with this.

Thanks!

The BGG Marketplace lists 5 AoS games that will ship to Malaysia. If you are in a hurry, buy one.
