I guess we'll have to wait and see what this is all about.

Completely unsurprising.

Did O.J. just want attention or something? This whole affair strikes me as being in poor taste.

Making money off of your dead wife by describing how you would have killed her...? shake

. . . but what continually galls me is a legal system where a criminal court can declare him innocent of the murders, but a civil court finds him guilty and fines him accordingly. I would say WTF if I was the kind of guy who said WTF.

Well, the jury in the criminal case found that there was insufficient evidence to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, the the accused person did indeed commit a fully premeditated act of murder. That's the DA's screwup; second degree they would probably have gotten.

In the civil case, the jury found the the preponderance of evidence argued that he was indeed responsible for the the wrongful death of his wife.

So it wasn't so much a question of guilt or innocence, as the amount of evidence required to prove each case.

BUT-yeah, it's absolutely insane. The US legal system is no better at sparing the innocent and punishing the guilty than would be trial by combat (one could argue that it IS trial by combat). What it is better at is providing employment for a nearly completely unproductive class; many of whom then end up in a position to legislate to preserve that employment. "The best legal system in the world" isn't a whole lot better than having a guy point and say "I think you're guilty".

I'm working on my own book about how I would have killed Nicole Brown Simpson. Spoiler: it involves a giant squid.

"but a civil court finds him guilty"

Can't be done. A civil court does not decide guilt, but does decide responsibility for damages.

Without pirates or black holes it's a non-starter.

Perhaps I'm remembering incorrectly, but I believe that a criminal verdict must be unanimous, whereas a civil verdict can be by majority. Does that sound right to anybody else?

I was studying crim at college during the criminal trial. We were told to watch the footage as part of class and discussed it all with our teachers.

My verdict on the verdict is that OJ was freed on the little known "this is a go**amed circus" defense.

edit: for my 2 cents these latest actions by the man point to guilt.

I highly suspected the book/interview would never happen as soon as I heard about it. This "project" was so unbelievable, one almost had to believe it would be cancelled. None of it made sense. How he *would* have killer her? Huh? What could that possibly mean?

The topic of this thread is spot on. ABSOLUTELY beyond bizarre.

I hear the cancellation has also stifled Fox's planned broadcast of "Osama: How I Would Have Planned the 9/11 Attacks"
