Boy, that escalated quickly. I mean that really got out of hand fast.

Cartagena is a game where you advance a group of tokens that belong to you to a final goal. You can use the efforts of others to accomplish this goal and others can use your efforts as well.

In quicksand, you are moving all of the tokens on the board, some less and some more, but the point is to advance your secret token to the end of the track. People are trying to guess what token is yours so they can thwart it and advance their own.

The games are fairly different. I like Quicksand as a light game with lots of people (4+). I like cartagena with as few as possible, and it becomes very interesting as a two player. Cartagena is held in higher regard in my group than Quicksand.

btw, you should probably not put stuff like this in the game articles, especially both games' articles. This might be deleted as not pertaining to the game.

Like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be recovered, so we must die. But God does not take away life; instead, he devises ways so that a banished person may not remain estranged from him. 2 Sam 14:14

Having now played both, I say Cartagena is vastly superior. Cartagena is both better for kids - because it's straightforward and the deception in Quicksand is hard for them - and better for adults - because there is a lot more depth to the maneuvering, especially when playing with all cards face up (Tortuga version).

Get Cartagena and don't look back.

Having younger kids, 6 and 11, I had both games and ended up selling Cartagena. The kids just love Quicksand and have for 2 years now. I don't think the deception is at all hard for them, they love trying to be tricky. Cartagena was too much of a thinker for them, it just wasn't as fun for them. For adults, the choice would definitely be Cartagena. Cartagena seems to bridge the gap between kids and adults, while I see Quicksand as more of a childs game. Quicksand is also quick and easy to play and the rules are soooo simple.
