Something they do to teach kids the metric system: use color-coded Legos (ideally, square ones, although I guess the more common pentagonal ones would work too ) as bills (in denominations of 1, 10, 100 "Electros"), which the players stick together in bars of up to 10 Legos of each denomination. Easier to count out than paper bills (just break off a suitable length), less change making since fewer denominations, easily consolidated for trading in for larger denominations, and gives the players something to fiddle with. This would seem to result in very open holdings, but I guess players could keep them in a tall plastic cup or something so they'd be somewhat hidden.
