Seems like, with some clever adaptation, this "highlights style" game could inspire other versions utilizing different sports.

Basketball?
Golf?
Basketball?
Hockey?
Football?

Curling would be awesome with this system. Not even joking.

4 players on each team, alternating between teams, with each player reacting to the opponent's shot and setting up your teammate's shot? That's tailor-made for using this system.

We would love to get some more games in with this system but its not so easy. And Curling is a fascinating option!

We have been kicking several ideas around, especially football, but nothing has stuck so far.

There are two issues - it must work and it must sell. At present, we are still stuck on both counts, but have not given up!

heres a left field idea - skip football and go straight to Speedball or Rollerball.

Rollerball even has the circuit players have to skate round before they can score - plus motorbikes, catchers, dirty plays etc.

its even got a retro-futuristic setting

Football and basketball are the most interesting challenges (and there are NO good basketball board games)... I'd say take that on first. There has to be a way to get basketball some love.

Speedball. Hmm... it is futuristic, I grant that... the circuit is similar to the diamond.

Really enjoy this game -- best new game of 2015 so far for me.

By Football do you mean soccer?

Soccer Highlights would be awesome. It seems to lend itself well to the "Highlights" theme -- scoring is low, shots and dramatic saves are exciting, etc.

-- Your offensive buildup could be tracked sort of like baserunners.

-- I can see cards that provide either a buildup increase or shot opportunity if buildup is high enough. The minimum buildup for a shot could vary from card to card, so you could have scoring specialist cards.

-- Other team would need a defend that could cancel a shot or lower the buildup.

-- Counter-attack cards that both lower the opponent's buildup and raise your own.

-- Cards that are better in the first half or second half.

-- Maybe draw 3 more cards than you will play. These represent "subs" and give you more flexibility to attack/defend.

Seems like endless possibilities...

Edit -- forgot the idea that at the end of each half each player attempts to convert their shots to goals via a shot deck or dice. So one player may finish the half with three shots and convert all or none of them to goals. There would need to be a goalie card that could be played sort of like the "Visitor Save" to dramatically save goals at the end.

Cool... Was thinking after my first couple of games, that an Errors pack would be cool. Good offense tempered by defensive blunders. Perhaps you buy them to place in your opponent's deck.

Thanks for answering Mike. I'm REALLY looking forward to the new expansions! Will be notifying the Kickstarter backers by e-mail when the new expansions are available for pre-order?

As a curler, I've certainly brainstormed ways to create simple, interesting curling games - a system similar to this game is certainly one idea! The more curling games, the better.

Preaching to the choir, OrangeKing. Preaching to the choir.

My hierarchy of sports literally goes:

Baseball
Curling
Football/Soccer
Hockey

All the rest I can take or leave, but basketball can rot in hell for all I care.

The greatness of the system is the back-and-forth.

It could be anything from a four stop tower defense game or a FPS or anything. For those here, is there something inherently sporty about BH2045, or is it the lack of sports games more generally that is inspiring interest about modifying this game for other sports?

Just curious.

So what your saying is, you cherish it enough that you want it to keep you company after your demise.

That's one of my favorite "pick-up" lines:

"Tell me, did it hurt when you clawed your way up from Hell?"
