I would like to have a "Friend of Atheist" microbadge for those of us that don't want to commit, but have no problems with others taking the "big jump".

Again, if we allow microbadges in this area, I see no reason why people can't design there own microbadges.

I am the friend of an Atheist (several atheists, indeed). Is that what the badge means, or is it more like a 'Fellow Traveler' thing?

Since our religious convictions are going to be represented, why not our prior convictions? This opens the door for Drunk and Disorderly, Registered Sex Offender, Bumfight Promoter, and Deadbeat Dad! We could really run with this, and have Highschool/College Dropout, Married 3 Times, Virgin (but hopeful!), In Therapy, Watersports!, Mensa Award Winner and other critical lifestyle indicators so we can create a complete graphic autobiography below our avatars.

I'd totally be into a Friend of Atheist badge, seriously! Marc's ideas are pretty good too except for the Watersports. No Watersports, please, they really piss me off.

I need a microbadge that says God & religion are too big a topic to possibly be discussed in a microbadge without bugging everyone including believers. Can we get one of those?

Because if we're going to do a badge for Christians, we need to do one showing which type. I wouldn't want people thinking I'm Protestant, afterall. I was raised Catholic and we're idolators & Mary cultists, last I checked. So we need separate badges for Catholic, Protestant & Orthodox. On Protestant alone you need badges indicating whether you are hard-shell or soft-shell Baptist, Episcopal, Anglican, Church of Canada, Methodist, AME, Evangelical, Charismatic, Seventh-Day Adventist, Snake-Handler, UCC, or maybe even Coptic. Trust me on this, Greek Orthodox definitely does NOT want to be confused with Russian Orthodox.

I need a microbadge for a happily lapsed Catholic who really doesn't like the church as an organization or believe in the divinity of You Know Who but does believe in G-d and really thinks ideas like "do unto others as you would have them do unto you," piety, humility and being of service to others are all still really excellent and has a lot of respect for how difficult it is to have faith of any sort in this world. Can someone whip me up something like that?

Or how about one that says I'd much prefer to just blather about minor topics like games?

Why no political mini-badges? How about one for flaming leftie liberal Dems, another for center left Dems, another for dead center middle of the road Dems and another for sort-of-but-not-too conservative Dems? Repeat on the right all the way out to Wing Nuts. Then communists, socialists, fascists (both Islamo- and other types), monarchists, constitutional monarchists, plutocrats, aristocrats, technocrats, meritocrats, oligarchs, thugocracies, kleptocracies, anarchists, anarcho-syndicalists, defeatists, cheese-eating surrender monkeys, stay-the-coursers, Hate-The-War-Support-The-Troops, and those who haven't ever voted and have no intention of ever doing so.

There's a reason why money, religion and politics used to be considered topics to be avoided in general conversation. They are too complex and personal to survive a bumpersticker. They are better topics for one-on-one or small-groups when we have the time to actually explain what we think and are willing to listen to what others think. That's the heart of civil discourse.

We are all gamers. That's why we're all here. I was quite disconcerted the first time I saw the religious and atheist microbadges. My first reaction was -- there's someone I don't have something in common with. Maybe he/she won't like me because I don't agree with them so maybe I shouldn't talk to him/her.

I play games because they're fun. I play games because it gives me something to do with my friends and make new friends. It gives us something we can do while we get to know each other.

This is similar to why I watch sports: I can love it and it doesn't matter. When my wife asks me if I'm watching "an important game" I always say "that's an oxymoron." (And yet she hasn't killed me, go figure. I have to deal with important things all the time. Issues like paper or plastic? Long pants or shorts? Games and sports are a diversion that I can follow and can bring me together with other people. (Except Shadows Over Camelot, I think anyone who plays that game is going to H-ll.)

There's enough divisiveness out there. Do we really need to bring it in here? (Except for you SoC fans. 'Cuz you are just wrong.)

You're too late. Hell = 6 weeks of basic training at Fort Knox, KY in July & August. (But I did get to play with a lot of automatic weapons.)How about if you send me to Heck, instead?
