I don't quite understand what it means from the description that the 10z and 17z boards "freshen" up the boards (presumably vs. the regular version of boards 10 and 17). Are they basically variants of the regular board 10 and board 17?

Also the description mentions overlays. Are there overlays in this bonus pack? Or are the new boards the same as the old boards but incorporating overlay depictions into their artwork?

The original intent was to include two overlays designed specifically for boards 10 and 17. It turned out that simply doing full boards with the overlays incorporated could be done for the same cost, so MMP went that route instead.

The map notation system followed by AH/MMP is quite confusing.

Some day the SK maps z,y,x,... will collide with the Deluxe Maps a,b,c... And the newer style maps 1a,1b,2a,2b,... will now collide with the even newer maps with integrated overlays 10z,17z,...

Having a nice sorted collection of ASL maps is quite confusing.

There are so many proofed notation systems that I've never understood the choices taken here.

My choice would have been:

- Original maps: 1,2,3,...
- Deluxe maps: D1,D2,D3,...
- Starter kit maps: S1,S2,S3,...
- New size maps with both hex numerations: A1a,A1b,A2a,A2b,A3a,A3b,...
- Maps with overlay variants: 10o1,17o1,...

This way you can extend any series without limit.
You can also define new map sizes or orientations using different letters.
And you can have an unlimited number of overlay variations if any map with the o suffix.

I simply place my 10z board after the 10 one, and the 17z after the 17 one in their binder (as they are variants and not absolutely new boards).
No brainer compared to other more demanding intellectual exercises asked by ASL (sorting counters someone? cool).

Yep, sorting counters is also quite demanding.
Someday someone will sell the perfect ASL storage boxes and he or she will be rich.
