Played this one the other night on the hero side and was handed a rough loss. Afterwards we had discussion and couldn't figure out what to do differently.

The OL started with the red token, so killing the witchers seemed like a waste of time. He blocked both bog overgrowths with monsters forcing us to remove one to even get at Ariad. He then bounced between white/red, white/blue, and blue/red depending on needs and hid Ariad behind a wall of monsters. We tried to brute our way through the monsters and drop Ariad as best we could (attacking only monsters that prevented us from getting at Ariad - we didn't waste actions), but were overwhelmed by the amount of incoming damage. (open group was barghests - up to 4 attacks and 4 howls per round with limitless reinforcements, and lots of witchers at our back...)

Is there something we missed, or is this one just really hard for the heroes to win?

What is your hero make up? If you have a mage with blast, it would prevent your overlord in grouping monsters together if he doesn't want multiple monsters dead in a single turn.

We had a berserker (with whirlwind and Valyndra's Bane), geomancer with immolation (does not have blast yet, can put out up to 3 stones, but OL never let that happen), treasure hunter with starting weapon and apothecary with starting weapon (shop deck has not been nice to us!) We also had manaweave, theif's vest, and one or two other minor items I can't think of right now...

In this quest the OL reinforces entire groups at the start of his turn. Killing monsters doesn't accomplish a lot - after we removed an overgrowth he got the ability to reinforce all 8 monsters every round (the witchers take a round of moving to get back to the fight, but it didn't seem worth it to prioritize them). And with good placement of the barghests, the OL gave us no choice but to remove an overgrowth.
