A life, some would argue, is a series of problems. There’s no denying the truth in that – but why get lost in it? Why not rise above the truth… and lead a good life? Shouldn’t we all look at problems as a chance for us to find… solutions?

2 Rooms 1 Boom PBF #112:
The Power of Boom Dva (The Revolution Continues!)

A means can be justified only by its end. But the end in its turn needs to be justified, From the Marxist point of view, which expresses the historical interests of the proletariat, the end is justified if it leads to increasing the power of man over nature and to the abolition of the power of man over man. My faith in the communist future of mankind is not less ardent, indeed it is firmer today, than it was in the days of my youth.
-- Leon Trotsky on the need for continued Revolution.

The secret war between Stalin's Comintern and Trotsky's 4th International has been decided with Trotsky and his allies triumphant. Yet the revolution has not ended and neither have the threats to it. Even the party congress itself is divided and Trotsky's hold on power is far from complete. Unwilling or unable to take the same steps as his one time rival, Trotsky finds himself in increasingly bitter contention with Mikhail Tukhachevsky over the direction of the Red Army. The ever eloquent Kirov has proven to be a dangerous ally and the ever looming dangers of the Fascist enemy in Europe remain a constant foe to the Revolution.

The game is scheduled to begin on Monday the 4th of May at 9:00 AM BGG time. Roles will be sent out prior to the start. Do to discuss them with anyone else. Sign ups will be allowed up until 4:00 PM BGG time on May 3rd.

Introduction

Two Rooms and a Boom is a social deduction, hidden role game. There are two teams, the Red Team and the Blue Team. The Blue Team has a President. The Red Team has a Bomber. Players are equally distributed between two rooms (separate playing areas). The game consists of 5 timed rounds. At the end of each round, some players will be traded into opposing rooms. If the Red Team’s Bomber is in the same room as the Blue Team's President at the end of the game, then the Red Team wins. Otherwise the Blue Team wins.

PBF Rules
See PBF rules on the wiki.
Specifically, these rules for electing leaders are in effect: If a leader cannot be decided by majority votes, then at the end of the round, the player with the most votes becomes the leader. If there is a tie, the player with the longest held last vote becomes the leader. (Note: this only applies to leaderless rooms. Usurpation rules are as normal.)

The leader will be allowed to transfer themselves out of a room. If they transfer themselves out of the room, the room becomes leaderless and must have a new leader elected as per the rules of the first round. In addition, a leader may choose to give leadership to another player in the same room. They do so by bolding Give leadership to Player. The player does not need to accept. They are the new leader. Anyone who hands off leadership (Why they would want to give up power aside...) cannot vote for the rest of the round.

Leaders may appoint a Second-in-Command by bolding it in the room. The Second-in-Command cannot override the leaders decisions, but if the leader has failed to submit transfer orders or an executive decision, the Second-in-Commands orders will take effect.

Locked Votes: Due to the nature of Lobbyist and other roles in this game, Locked Votes may not be unlocked during the round, unless a power forces them to re-lock a vote.

Special Leadership rules: Executive Decision

Every round, whoever is the final leader has to make an executive decision which must be sent along with their transfers. If they do not send an executive decision, and there are no orders from a Second-in-Command, the executive decision will go to the default option.

On the 10th anniversity of Lenin's death, all have taken to mourning and a subdued manner. Respect for the great revolutionary has forced all within the politburo to assume a humble outward appearance and allow the former leader the attention of the day. No one can public reveal their card or color in either room during Round one.

Executive Decisions

Round One:

Default - The Revolution continues. Though we continue to honor and mourn the death of Lenin, the Revolution cannot halt and it is back to business as usual. Players may public reveal once more. You may send a brief message to be publically displayed in the opposing room.

Grand Symphony - To the applause of the masses the city will herald in the future of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics with a broadcast of Prokofiev Symphony No. 3. Players may not whisper in the room this round.

Issue revolutionary garb - All citizens will join together in the solidarity of the proletariat by wearing outfits signifying their fervor for the Revolution. Players may not public color reveal, private color reveal or color share.

Round Two:

Default - Issue revolutionary garb. All citizens will join together in the solidarity of the proletariat by wearing outfits signifying their fervor for the Revolution. Players may not public color reveal, private color reveal or color share.

Exile rival - You may choose one player you are transferring to be exiled. An exiled player may not be transferred next round. Exiled players will be noted in the round transfers.

People's Commissariat of Communications - The mail must get through! You may send one private message along with your transfers to someone in the other room OR to be publicly displayed in the room.

Round Three:

Default - Internal Security Screening. You know how many of each color is entering your room next round. You do not know to whom they belong however.

Voice of the proletariat - The workers of the world all speak with one voice and so it is not necessary to track private conversations within the party. Players do not need to post that they are whispering or who they are whispering this round.

Assume additional powers - You may discard your own role card for one of the buried role cards to be decidedly randomly. This new role will always be the same color as your original role.

Round Four:

Default - NKVD Interrogation - Signify one of your transfers to be interrogated. They must answer one question truthfully as if they had been a victim of the interrogation power.

Commission special ambassador - Choose one player remaining in your room to receive the status of special ambassador. During the round the player may bold that they are using their Ambassador status to leave the room and travel to the other room for one hour. That player cannot vote or reveal any information on their cards. The ambassador can send whispers, receive whispers, and receive private reveals.

Pardon from the Party Chief - Choose one player other than yourself that was in your room this turn. That player is cleansed of all conditions. This does not work on VIPs (Blue President or Red Bomber).

The executive decision will change some fundamental rules of the game. These special rules will only be in effect in that particular room, so both rooms can have different rules.

The Blue Team The Bolshevik–Leninist Opposition

The great October Revolution, its ideas of fighting for peace among nations, for the abolition of the exploitation of man by man, for equality and friendship among nations, live and triumph in the Socialist construction now unfolded in all the People's Democracies, in the historic upsurge of the great Chinese people, in the foundation and consolidation of the peace-loving German Democratic Republic.

Let the doomed, the condemned by history, rage in their fury! The greater the frenzy in the camp of the warmongers, the greater should be the calm and restraint in our camp of peace. Guided by the genius of our former teachers and leaders, we face the morrow with confidence. We firmly know that the worldwide triumph of Socialism and democracy is inevitable.

Sergei Kirov (Blue President)Sergei was a prominent Bolshevik leader in the Soviet Union. Kirov rose through the Communist Party ranks to become head of the party organization in Leningrad. Kirov, a lover of the good life and a hardened drinker who would swear in public, was also highly popular with party cadres. Once a loyal supporter of Stalin, you bent as the wind changed and cemented an alliance with the Trotskyist. Now you challenge the General Secretrary himself. With growing ambitions you have allied yourself with Mikhail Tukhachevsky and must contact him to keep the Red Army's support in the weeks to follow. Blue team wins if you do not gain the "DEAD" condition. You must card share with Mikhail Tukhachevsky (Blue Doctor) before the end of the game or you gain the "DEAD" condition. If you end Round 5 in the same room as Yakov Agranov (Red Bomber) you gain the "DEAD" condition.

"In sharp contrast to Stalin, Kirov was a much younger man and an eloquent speaker, who was able to sway his listeners; above all, he possessed a charismatic personality. Of late he has been known to utter the following words: There are no fortresses that Bolsheviks cannot storm."

Mikhail Tukhachevsky (Blue Doctor) Tukhachevsky played a key role in the Red Army during the Revolution. Stalin regarded Tukhachevsky as one of his bitterest rivals and dubbed him Napoleonchik (little Napoleon). None the less, he proved useful and Tukhachevsky was given a leading role in reforming the army. He held advanced ideas on military strategy, and has become a principle ally to Kirov. Without Mikhail's influence over the military Kirov will surely perish. You must card share with Sergei Kirov (Blue President) before the end of the game or they will gain the "DEAD" condition. Blue team loses if Sergei Kirov (Blue President) has the "DEAD" condition.

"I am convinced that all that is needed in order to achieve what I want is bravery and self-confidence. I certainly have enough self-confidence...I told myself that I shall either be a general at thirty, or that I shall not be alive by then."

Lev Kamenev (Blue Con-Artist) One of the seven members of the first legendary Politburo, founded in 1917 in order to manage the Bolshevik Revolution Kamenev was also the brother-in-law of Leon Trotsky. A close ally of Zinoviev, Kamenev and his supporters were a key part of United Opposition alliance against Stalin. Blaming Trotsky for the death of Zinoviev he is now secretly working with the opposition. You are a special role that is the color of the opposite team. Your allegiance is to the Blue Team, but your card is {rRed}r. In addition, at the end of the round, you may transfer any votes you received for room leadership to another person. This will become public information in that room.

'We are opposed to the theory of a leader; we are against the making of a leader. We are opposed to the secretariat's practice of combining both politics and organisation and placing itself above the political organs of the Party. We cannot consider it as normal, we think it harmful to the Party that a situation should continue in which the secretariat combines politics and organisation, and in fact decides policy in advance. We are opposed to the theory of individual control, and we are opposed to the creation of a leader."

Nikolai Bukharin (Blue Lobbyist) A Soviet politician and prolific author on revolutionary theory. In the power struggle after Lenin's death, Bukharin allied himself with Stalin. It was Bukharin who formulated the thesis of "Socialism in One Country" put forth by Stalin in 1924. The thesis would become a hallmark of Stalinism. Despite Stalin's fall, Bukharin and his allies still hold considerable sway. You have the LOBBYING Power. When you card or color share with the another player, they gain the "Lobbied" condition. When the Lobbyist public reveals, he can use his LOBBYING power to force all players who have the "lobbied" condition from him to lock-vote for him as leader that round. By keeping their vote there, they lose the "lobbied" condition (they only lose it when you use your power). If someone with the "lobbied" condition is leader, they will offer leadership to you.

"We see now that infringement of freedom is necessary with regard to the opponents of the revolution. At a time of revolution we cannot allow freedom for the enemies of the people and of the revolution. That is a surely clear, irrefutable conclusion."

Alexei Rykov (Blue Gorgon) Rykov, a moderate, often came into political conflict with Lenin and more radical Bolsheviks, but nonetheless proved influential when the October Revolution finally did overthrow the Russian Provisional Government, and as such served many roles in the new government. Though he supported Stalin against Trotsky, he managed to remain infulential since the failed assassination attempt. Rykov attained the peak of his influence and prominence during the years of the New Economic Policy (NEP) and ardently promotes its restoration. [i]You have the GORGON power: any player that card shares with you gains the "stoned" condition. Players with the “stoned" condition may no longer vote.

"The anarchists put the thing upside down. They declare that the proletarian revolution must begin by doing away with the political organisation of the state. But after its victory the sole organisation which the proletariat finds already in existence is precisely the state. This state may require very considerable alterations before it can fulfil its new functions. But to destroy it at such a moment would be to destroy the only organism by means of which the victorious proletariat can assert its newly-conquered power, hold down its capitalist adversaries and carry out the economic revolution."

Grigori Sokolnikov(Blue Vacuum) One of the seven members of the first legendary Politburo, after the October Revolution, he held various government positions. He was a member of the delegation for peace negotiations with Germany and he replaced Leon Trotsky as chairman, signing the Brest-Litovsk treaty in 1918. Trotsky and him have been rivals since.Whenever another player private reveals to you, you take their card. You do not gain the powers or role of any card you take. If you have three cards, your bag is full and you cannot suck up anymore cards.

"An end to wars, peace among the nations, the cessation of pillaging and violence — such is our ideal, but only bourgeois sophists can seduce the masses with this ideal, if the latter is divorced from a direct and immediate call for revolutionary action."

Victor Serge(Blue Mayor) Serge was not one of the political or theoretical leaders of the Left Opposition, but he worked tirelessly to promote it through both writing and activism. Serge was a vocal ally of Trotsky, but in recent years disagreements between them have caused a definite split. Though he very much respects Trotsky and the man's goals, he feels he needs to support Kirov for the good of the movement.when you publicly reveal your card, your vote counts as two votes. This means that you can publicly reveal your card to count as two people for OR AGAINST the nomination of a new leader.

“The passivity of our comrades in the face of the repression under Stalin was a crime. We have to finally shake ourselves, we should not slip again. We must demand this from everyone. It is extremely regrettable that there is practically no more Secretariat. I am undertaking a campaign with all my strength against the repression, wherever and however I can."

Solomon (Alexandr) Lozovsky (Blue Chameleon) Born Samuil Abramovich Dridzo in Danilovka, Ukraine, Lozovsky first joined the Bolsheviks in 1901. During his lifetime he held several prominent positions in the Party, the Soviet Union and the international communist movement. Lozovsky supervised all the anti-fascist committees as vice-chairman of the Soviet Information Bureau (Sovinformburo). He is both an educator and a propagandist. After you color share with someone of a different color, your card's color changes to that new color, though you keep your original allegiance. (i.e., after Blue Chameleon shares with someone whose card shows RED, your card would become RED Chameleon, if he shared with someone who is GREY, your card would become GREY Chameleon.)

“The Revolution is not a plaything with which one amuses oneself and gets tired of. Neither is it made to order; socialism does not fall from the skies already made. The birth of the new order is painful, very painful. The Russian worker feels it in all his daily life. But we never look back, we look for our salvation not in the forms and relations of Western Europe, which are falling in ruins; we always look ahead, with a deep hope and a boundless faith. Capitalist society is decomposing and only Communism can save mankind. Let the bourgeois press sneer at us, let the gentry that call themselves socialists viciously laugh at us, the Russian proletariat shall surge forward and above the sneers, for it has chosen as a watchword those great words of Dante, with which our great teacher Karl Marx ends the first volume of his “Capital”: “Go your way, and let people say what they please!”

Lazar Kaganovich (Blue Strong-arm) Kaganovich helped to place Stalin's supporters in important jobs within the Communist Party bureaucracy. Since Stalin's fall he has made himself useful to both Trotsky and the rising star that is Kirov. In all Party conferences since, he made speeches demanding increased efforts in the search for and prosecution of "foreign spies" and "saboteurs". For his ruthlessness in the execution of Party orders, he was nicknamed "Iron Lazar" and the Kremlin's wolf. He knows Trotsky will never trust him, so he will make his path with Kirov instead. Once per game, the Strong-arm can publicly reveal their role. When they do so, the current leader of the room is forced to step down. A new leader must be re-elected as in the first round. The previous leader cannot be re-elected or place a vote for the rest of that round. Once a Strong-arm is revealed, the other Strong-arm cannot reveal in the same room during that round. This power can only be used in the first half of the round to allow players enough time to re-elect a new leader.

"Those who cast the votes decide nothing. Those who count the votes decide everything."

Nikita Khrushchev (Blue Spy Chief) In January, 1919, Khrushchev joined the Red Army and fought against the Whites in the Ukraine during the Civil War. Khrushchev remained active in the Communist Party and in 1925 was employed as party secretary of the Petrovsko-Mariinsk. Lazar Kaganovich, the general-secretary of the Ukrainian Communist Party, was impressed with Khrushchev and took him on as a pupil. With the support of Kaganovich, Khrushchev made steady progress in the party hierarchy. Though he has had dealings with Stalin and Beria both, he trusts neither, but in Kirov he has a genuine friend. You have the DISGUISE ability. When someone who shows your color Card Shares or Color Shares with you, you may choose to DISGUISE them. You have one Opposite color Disguise (Red Disguise) and one Grey Disguise.

"They say that the Soviet delegates smile. That smile is genuine. It is not artificial. We wish to live in peace, tranquility. But if anyone believes that our smiles involve abandonment of the teaching of Marx, Engels and Lenin he deceives himself poorly. Those who wait for that must wait until a shrimp learns to whistle. Whether you like it or not, history is on our side. We will bury you."

The Red Team The Permanent Revolution / 4th International

"The essence of Marxism consists in this, that it approaches society concretely, as a subject for objective research, and analyzes human history as one would a colossal laboratory record. Marxism appraises ideology as a subordinate integral element of the material social structure. Marxism examines the class structure of society as a historically conditioned form of the development of the productive forces; Marxism deduces from the productive forces of society the inter-relations between human society and surrounding nature, and these, in turn are determined at each historical stage by man’s technology, his instruments and weapons, his capacities and methods for struggle with nature. Precisely this objective approach arms Marxism with the insuperable power of historical foresight."

Leon Trotsky (Red Engineer) The General Secretary of the Communist Party. Following your victory over Ioseph Stalin you are the triumphant leader of the most powerful faction within the Soviets, yet you are not without your enemies. In the years following Lenin's death in 1924, he rose to become the major power dominating the Politburo. As the main advocate of "Permenant Revolution" you are in direct opposition to those more moderate communists and socialists. You have decided it is time to eliminate Kirov and his allies for the good of the Revolution. You must card share with Yakov Agranov (The Red Bomber) before the end of the game or the Red Team loses.

"Arguments to the effect that all violence, including revolutionary violence, is evil and that Communists therefore ought not to engage in “glorification” of armed struggle and the revolutionary army, amount to a philosophy worthy of Quakers and the old maids of the Salvation Army. Permitting such propaganda in a Communist Party is like permitting Tolstoyan propaganda in the garrison of a besieged fortress."

Yakov Agranov (Red Bomber) Agranov was the first chief of Soviet Main Directorate of State Security and a deputy of NKVD chief Genrikh Yagoda. With Yagoda's fall, he has been elevated by Trotsky. He has brutally repressed any perceived threats to the Soviet state, under Lenin, Stalin and Trotsky.Everyone in the same room as you at the end of the game gains the "dead" condition. You must card share with Leon Trotsky (Red Engineer) or the Red Team loses. The Red Team wins if you card share with the Engineer and Sergei Kirov (Blue President) gains the "dead" condition.

"If there is no enemy, he should be created, denounced and punished"."

Maxim Litvinov (Red Con-Artist) Maxim was a Russian revolutionary and prominent Soviet diplomat. Outwardly he has been extremely critical of Trotsky, but actually supports and fosters his cause of Permanent Revolution. You are a special role that is the color of the opposite team. Your allegiance is to the Red Team, but your card is Blue. In addition, at the end of the round, you may transfer any votes you received for room leadership to another person. This will become public information in that room.

"There is no security for any of us, unless there is security for us all."

Khristian Rakovsky (Red Lobbyist) was a Bulgarian socialist revolutionary, a Bolshevik politician and Soviet diplomat; he was also noted as a journalist, physician, and essayist. A lifelong collaborator of Leon Trotsky, he was a prominent activist of the Second International. He came to oppose Joseph Stalin and rallied with the Left Opposition, signing his name to a controversial Trotskyist platform which endorsed world revolution. He previously has treated Trotsky for the poisons Stalin's agents were most likely responsible for.You have the LOBBYING Power.

"When the opponent feels our weakness it does not do away with and does not postpone, but hastens war. Sooner or later peace will have to give way to a life-or-death struggle with imperialism"

Karl Radek (Red Gorgon) A Marxist active in the Polish and German social democratic movements before World War I and an international Communist leader in the Soviet Union after the Russian Revolution. Radek was part of the Left Opposition from 1923, writing his famed article 'Leon Trotsky: Organizer of Victory' shortly after Lenin's stroke in January of that year. You have the GORGON power: any player that card shares with you gains the "stoned" condition. Players with the “stoned" condition may no longer vote.

"A Labour party is not a debating club, it is a party of action."

Nikolay Krestinsky(Red Vacuum) A supporter of Lenin and Trotsky, Lenin appointed him as People's Commissar of Finance but he lost his place during Stalin's brutal rise to power. He helped Trotsky and the left opposition defeat Stalin and has served loyally to root out enemies ever since. Whenever another player private reveals to you, you take their card. You do not gain the powers or role of any card you take. If you have three cards, your bag is full and you cannot suck up anymore cards.

"Krestinsky was a man of outstanding intelligence, discretion and courage. His whole life was dedicated to the Party of the Revolution but he was there as a sort of exile, having been dismissed from the General Secretaryship because of his democratic inclinations. He was still young, and astoundingly myopic, so that his shrewd eyes, hidden behind lens a quarter of an inch thick, seemed to have a timid expression. With his tall, bare skull and his wisp of dark beard, he made one think of a scholar; actually he was a great practical technician of Socialism."

Adolph Joffe(Red Mayor) Joffe supported Lenin and Trotsky's revolutionary position against other Bolshevik Central Committee members who would have shared power with other socialist parties. Joffe remained a friend and loyal supporter of Leon Trotsky through the 1920s, joining him in the Left Opposition. He is one of Trotsky's closest friends and allies. when you publicly reveal your card, your vote counts as two votes. This means that you can publicly reveal your card to count as two people for OR AGAINST the nomination of a new leader.

"[Trotsky] You are in the right, but the certainty of the victory of your truth lies precisely in a strict intransigence, in the most severe rigidity, in the repudiation of every compromise, exactly as that was always the secret of the victories of Ilyich [Lenin]. Someday the party will understand this, and history will be forced to recognise it"

Béla Kun (Red Chameleon) Béla Kun was a Hungarian revolutionary who led the Hungarian Soviet Republic in 1919. Following the fall of the Hungarian revolution, Kun emigrated to the Soviet Union, where he worked as a functionary in the Communist International bureaucracy. Known for his highly energetic oratory and skill for propaganda he has become a useful ally of Trotsky who wishes to restore Communism to Hungary. After you color share with someone of a different color, your card's color changes to that new color, though you keep your original allegiance. (i.e., after Red Chameleon shares with someone whose card shows BLUE, your card would become BLUE Chameleon, if he shared with someone who is GREY, your card would become GREY Chameleon.)

“Pacifism — that falsification of the honest will of the workers to peace, first omen of instinctive protest against imperialist war and of the awareness of a reactionary character in the clandestine preparations of imperialist war and military intervention against the Soviet Union is undergoing a profound crisis. The bourgeoise becomes less and less capable of concealing the fact that the cause of war lies in imperialist capitalism itself; that capitalism and war are inseperable.”

Yevgeni Preobrazhensky (Red Strong-arm) As President of the Presidium of the Ural Regional Committee, the killing of Nicholas II and his family occurred on Preobrazhensky's watch. Through the 1920s he was a leading Soviet Economist, developing the plan for industrialization of the country and an opponent of the NEP. A supporter of Trotsky as member of the Left Opposition; He co-wrote the book The ABC of Communism with Nikolai Bukharin, with whom he would strongly disagree on the industrialization issue. He has become a powerful force in the 4th International.

"Our object is the economic freedom of the producing classes; this ultimate goal will be attained after a long and bitter struggle; therefore, our primary task is to organize the masses and lead them in the struggle for economic freedom."

Natalia Sedova Trotsky (Red Spy Chief) A Russian Revolutionary best known for being Leon Trotsky's second wife. Born in Ukraine, she met Leon Trotsky in Paris in 1902 and they later married. She worked with Lenin and Trotsky on the Bolshevik newspaper Iskra. She supports her husband unconditionally and has gone to great lengths to smooth over tensions her husbands confrontational manner creates. She adamantly maintains her defense of internationalism and her repudiation of Stalinism and fascism. You have the DISGUISE ability. When someone who shows your color Card Shares or Color Shares with you, you may choose to DISGUISE them. You have one Opposite color Disguise (Blue Disguise) and one Grey Disguise.

"In the struggle between two worlds, the one in its decline, the other in its ascendancy, the hour of decision has come. The old world does not flinch at resorting to any measure in order to tarry a little longer on the historical arena. As guard and guardian of the covenants of its great predecessor, it is the task of the Fourth International to bring about the restoration of the October Kremlin; its task is to regenerate the revolutionary world labor movement and to achieve the victory of Socialism."

UNALIGNED REVOLUTIONARIES, ANARCHISTS, & MEGALOMANIACS

Iosif Stalin (Infiltrator)
Your color is Grey. Once the General Secretary of the Communist Party, you have since been deposed and sent into exile in the Urals. But your enemies were too soft, they didn't finish the task. They will realize the error of their mistake too late. The Infiltrator may private reveal as either Sergei Kirov (Blue President) or Yakov Agranov (Red Bomber). If they card share with both the Blue Doctor and the Red Egnineer they win. If a Doctor or Engineer card shared with Infiltrator, it cannot cure the President or arm the Bomb that round.

"I consider it completely unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is this—who will count the votes, and how."

Alexander Berkman (Anarchist) Initially supportive of Russia's Bolshevik revolution, Berkman soon voiced his opposition to the Soviet's use of terror after seizing power and their repression of fellow revolutionaries. In 1925, he published a book about his experiences, The Bolshevik Myth. [i]You win if your vote helped successfully usurp a leader three times, none of which can be the same round. For example, in a 5 round game, you must have usurped a leader 3 of the 5 rounds. Your color is Grey.

"Gray are the passing days. One by one the embers of hope have died out. Terror and despotism have crushed the life born in October. Dictatorship is trampling the masses under foot. The Revolution is dead; its spirit cries in the wilderness."

Lavrentiy Beria (Machiavelli) Lavrentiy Pavlovich Beria was certainly one of the most vicious and mysterious figures of the Soviet era. He was drawn into the intelligence and counterintelligence operations of the ‘Cheka’ – the Bolshevik secret police – and in 1923 became the head of Georgia’s Cheka division. Beria quickly climbed his way up through the ranks of the Cheka and its successors: the GPU, the OGPU and later the NKVD. He ruthlessly blackmailed officials in order to gain political backing and promotions. He wasn’t just vicious in his career ambitions either – wherever he went, people died or were reported missing. Your card is Grey. You have the "Anoint" power. Any player that color shares or card shares with you gains the "anointed" condition. Players with the "anointed" condition can only give up leadership to Grey Machiavelli. Grey Machiavelli wins if they control both rooms at the end of the game directly and/or indirectly via "anointed" players. Anyone with the "anointed" condition loses if Gray Machiavelli loses.

"By psychopolitics create chaos. Leave a nation leaderless. Kill our enemies. And bring to Earth, through Communism, the greatest peace Man has ever known. A peace I shall control."

Kremlin Functionary (Bribed Official) Though not well known, you have just enough influence to tip the scales of power for one faction over another - you have but one question for them: What is in it for you? For each new private card reveal you receive from a Blue/Red team member, the respective team gains one point of influence with you. You win if the team that influenced you the most wins. If neither Red or Blue team has private revealed to you both Red and Blue team lose and so do you. If both teams have equal influence with you, you gain a solo victory, and they both lose.

“The rules are simple: they lie to us, we know they're lying, they know we know they're lying, but they keep lying to us, and we keep pretending to believe them.”

The Ghost of Lenin (The Ghost) As influential as he was in life, Lenin may have been more so in death. Over 100 million have lined up to view his mummified body. His memory has been used to support every change in Soviet policy and every new regime since his death. His theories inspired the successful revolutions of Fidel Castro, Mao Zedong, and Ho Chi Minh; as well as countless other revolutionaries in countries full of oppressed and powerless people. You are Grey. You keep the card of any player that private reveals with you. You may show any player any stolen card. You win if you have eaten a third (rounded down) of the player's cards

Human reason has discovered many amazing things in nature and will discover still more, and will thereby increase its power over nature.

A life, some would argue, is a series of problems. There’s no denying the truth in that – but why get lost in it? Why not rise above the truth… and lead a good life? Shouldn’t we all look at problems as a chance for us to find… solutions?

FAQ

- You may not offer the room card or color shares. You must list the name of each person you are offering a card or color share to.

- When you private reveal, public reveal or card share you only need to indicate your color and role, not your character name. This is potentially important in that it alliows the Chameleons to more fully infiltrate the other side.

- The Mayor ability is in affect for the round in which your votes are cast. So if you became stoned and then were cured of that condition all in the same round, you'd still have two votes.

- Players with the ANOITED condition can still be usurped, forced to give up leadership via Strong Arm or a LOBBY power, or voted out of power. They just cannot willingly give up leadership to anyone but Grey Machiavelli.

- Regarding the Round one executive decision: This decision prevents publicly revealing your card or color. If you have an ability that requires you to do so, you cannot use that ability this round. After round one everyone will have the ability to public reveal if they wish.

- Regarding the executive decision: Internal Security Screening. You know how many of each color is entering your room next round. You do not know to whom they belong however. You will receive the color they CURRENTLY show on their card. In the case of spies you will receive the color that is opposite of their allegiance, in the case of Chameleon you will receive the color they currently possess, and in the case of players without cards (due to being taken from them) you will receive the last color that card showed.

- Chameleon states "After you color share with someone of a different color..." Different is with reference to current color.

- Keep in mind Chameleon is very specifically ONLY color shares, the Chameleon does not change colors on a Card share.

- Body Doubles only show the main VIP for their team. Blue Body Double shows Blue President and Red Body Double shows Red Bomber.

- Locked Votes: Due to the nature of Lobbyist and other roles in this game, Locked Votes may not be unlocked during the round, unless a power forces them to re-lock a vote.

“Whatever a party could offer of courage, revolutionary far-sightedness and consistency in a historic hour, Lenin, Trotsky and the other comrades have given in good measure. All the revolutionary honour and capacity which Western social democracy lacked was represented by the Bolsheviks. Their October uprising was not only the actual salvation of the Russian Revolution; it was also the salvation of the honour of international socialism.” -- Rosa Luxemburg

Of sorts. It has some variant rules. It will be very similar to PBF #83.

The set hasn't been finalized yet, but it will have similarities to the set used in PBF #83 -- You can use that as a frame of reference for now. I will likely post a tentative role set sometime this week.

Here is a list of roles I am currently considering. These are far from set in stone. The number of players will obviously determine which roles get included as well as my own personal preferences, but please feel free to offer comments and suggestions.

President/Bomber
Doctor/Engineer
Mayor (Bonus Vote with Public Reveal)
Body Double (May show their team VIP when card sharing or Private revealing)
Vacuum (Eats cards of people who private reveal to them)
Gorgon (Makes people unable to vote on Card Share)
Lobbyist (With card share lobbies people so they must vote for Lobbyist on a Lobbyist Public reveal)
Chameleon (Changes color to the last person they card or color shared with)
Con Artist (Like a spy, but can transfer votes for them to someone else)
Spy (Has the opposite team color)
Mirror (reflects conditions)
Painter (Can paint people of opposite colors new colors on card share)
Spy Chief (Has a uniform of the opposite team's color and one of grey. On a card share with someone of their own color they may give that player a new uniform, if they have any left)
Strong Arm (Can forcefully depose a room leader, forces new elections in which the deposed cannot vote)

Greys:
Infiltrator (May private reveal as either the President or the Bomber. If it card shares with either the President or the Bomber it wins, if a Doctor or Engineer card shared with Infiltrator, it cannot cure the President or arm the Bomb that round.)
Born leader (Wins if it is final leader of a room)
Bribed official (For each new private card show you receive from a Blue/Red team member, the respective team gains one point of influence with you. You win if the team that influenced you the most wins. If they receive no private reveals, they are the sole winner. If they have influence split evenly between both teams, Bribed Official only wins if both teams lose.)
Machiavelli (Any player who color shares or card shares with you gains the "anointed" condition. Players with the "anointed" condition can only give up leadership to Gray Machiavelli. Gray Machiavelli wins if he/she controls both rooms at the end of the game directly and/or indirectly via "anointed" players. Anyone with the "anointed" condition loses if Gray Machiavelli loses. *I may limit the number of people Machiavelli can anoint*)
Anarchist (you win if your vote helped successfully usurp a leader three times, none of which can be the same round. For example, in a 5 round game, you must have usurped a leader 3 of the 5 rounds.)
Minion (you win if a leader is never usurped in the same room as you)
Ghost (You keep the card of any player that private reveals with you. You may show any player any stolen card. You win if you have eaten a third (rounded down) of the player's cards.)
