I just did a quick read of the rules linked thru the kickstarter page. I own Thunder Alley and wouldn't say they are very similar at all. Differences would be too difficult and numerous to list.

OK well I guess it is good that it isn't just rethemed Thunder Alley. Hopefully we hear more on the pros/cons later.

It is not at all Thunder Alley. It shares no systems nor components.

Fast & Furious is literally possible to play in 10-15 minutes for a straight drag race. You can add in some curves and commuters to make the game longer.

The only real similarities are that they both have car themes.

I'm also a Thunder Alley owner (and fan!). I've just read through the F&F rules a couple of times, so I don't claim to be an expert on them, but here are my observations.

Similarities:

--racing game

--card driven

--designed by the Horgers

--cars are damageable in TA, damage rules are available/optional in F&F

Apparent Differences:

--shorter races in F&F, multiple races intended in one sitting

--very variable tracks in F&F, 4 tracks in TA

--4 players max in F&F, 7 players max in TA

--a player controls 1 individual car in F&F, a team of cars in TA

--in TA all cars have equal "stats", in F&F you can customize your car setup across 9 categories (turbo charge, handling, transmission, aerodynamics, nitrous, engine power, engine tuning, tires, steering)

--no special drivers/abilities in TA, 12 different drivers in F&F

--hand management card play in TA, hand management card play in conjunction with your car's gearing & setup/driver abilities in F&F

I have to say I'm very intrigued by this game. I would normally tend to give a game like this a wide berth, but the fact that the Horgers are the designers makes me give it a lot more credibility.

I *love* Thunder Alley, so I know that not only can the Horgers do a good game, they can do a good *racing* game.

I haven't committed to backing F&F yet, but I'm strongly considering it.

I'm not a F&F movie fan at all, but this looks pretty intriguing and considering the designer, I might have to sign up on this one!

Kind of funny but from the ks comments....

@DJ -- Not really game play wise. They're both racing games but I'd say it's more akin to Thunder Alley

To me it feels very different from Thunder Alley but perhaps others see it differently.

That was me who wrote that, and while I'd say that yes, I got a TA vibe from it (a speedy racing game), it is certainly substantially different from Jeff and Carla's other fine creation. It certainly stands alone and is a very entertaining game, hence the fact we want to make it!

A game can be closer to Thunder Alley than to Formula D without being all that close to Thunder Alley.
