We are planning on playing this over the coming weekend. We played it last month using the regular rules, but this month want to use Squash's variant for combat. I have downloaded the charts, battleboard, rules but wonder about the Scorpion man's attack dice versus Greek Heroes. He seems to get 4 extra dice for a total of 9. He usually only gets extra dice against mortals. Is there errata somewhere that changed this, or is it a mistake on the chart, or am I missing something, or some combination of the three?

Hope this can be cleared up by the weekend.

Thanks!

not sure what chart you're talking about. :/ But the only unofficial errata I've seen is that Scorpionman is too expensive.

Marhawkan; I am talking about the chart in the Squash battle variant found in the files under this game here on BGG.

Err... which specific version?

http://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/32375/squashs-battle-line-...

that's the original, but I don't see a chart there.

Or this?

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/32367/unit-reference-s...

Hmm... now that I look at it, Ronac mentioned the same issue you did. But I'm not sure how to read the charts.

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/311878/ultimate-unit-ref...

Hmm.... ok, it has 3 numbers on the chart like so:
...9...
.9...0.

This is the Scorpionman vs Classical Greek Hero. yeah that doesn't look right to me either. I'd go with what makes sense over the chart.

Oh and I'd also either reduce the cost of the Scorpionman by 2 or increase it's base die roll by 2....

Yeah. There is no key that I have found as to the numbers. There are some hints in the instructions about how to use the battleboard.

The large number is how many dice to roll against the particular enemy in that column.

The small number next to the large number is how much it has been raised from the base number against that particular enemy.

The small number in the lower left is number of the enemy's dice.

The small number to the right has to do with supporting units (as per the variant rules). So, if the unit is not the attacker or defender but in support of an attacker or defender against that particular enemy, he gets to add that number of support dice to the attacker's dice (if it is a positive number. A zero or negative number is ignored).

My confusion is over the scorpionman getting 9 base dice against the heroic. figures. That is a +4 to their base. But they should only get that against mortals and not against heroes.

So, I am wondering was the scorpionman's stats updated to make him stronger or is it a mistake in the chart (which I think will be extremely useful if it is accurate or corrected to be so).

I am thinking it might just be a mistake, but one that has been repeated in at least one update of the original chart.

It might just be an error that got missed.

I think the only key to the chart is in that thread on the subject.

what I was saying about the scorpionman's stats is that most units roll 1 more die than their total recruitment cost. Mortals usually cost 2 and roll 3, etc.... The Scorpionman costs 6 and rolls 5... this makes no sense to me. which to me is a good reason to house-rule the scorpionman's stats. And really.. given how weak the Egyptian units are(only the Phoenix is stronger than 5, and it's just 6), I'm leaning towards having it use 7 die.
