Tom, Mike, and Dave played a three-player game of Goa. While it was the sixth time playing for Tom, it was only the second time playing for both Mike and Dave. Interestingly, the flag marker passed back and forth between Mike and Dave throughout the game, with Tom not bidding enough to win the flag even once. In the end though Tom was able to pull it out in a close game.

Tom scored 43 points. He had 19 points on the development board with the expedition card track at 10, the colonist track at 6, and the taxation track at 3. He had 10 points from founding all four colonies. He had 8 points from expedition cards with one set of three, and two individual cards. He had 3 points from single plantations, and 3 more points from a Mission tile.

Mike scored 38 points. He had 25 points on the development board with the harvest track at 10, the taxation track at 6, the ships track at 3, the expedition card track at 3, and the colonist track at 3. He had 10 points from founding all four colonies. He had 3 points from individual expedition cards in hand at the end of the game.

Dave scored 35 points. He had 21 points on the development board with the ships track at 6, the harvest rack at 6, the taxation track at 3, the expedition card track at 3, and the colonist track at 3. He had 10 points from founding all four colonies. He had 1 point from a single expedition card, and 3 points for having the most money at the end.

Tom had the fewest points on the development board, but focused on the expedition card track early, drawing expedition cards almost every turn (having been told by Mike immediately prior to the game that there was a thread on BoardGameGeek claiming that the expedition card was the best, and since Tom had never focused on that track before, he figured he’d give it a shot). Tom was able to get a number of expedition cards that allowed him to advance on the development board for only ships, only spice sacks, and only money, which made it possible to not advance the ships or harvest tracks at all. Tom also got lucky being able to found the fourth colony and getting three matching expedition cards for the end of the game. Plus the single plantations (which Tom had never purchased in previous games, but thought he might trying getting this time around) and Mission tile both came relatively cheap. It was a pretty close game of Goa through the very end, as usual, and enjoyed by all.
