The author Charles Stross was completely unknown to me until I saw an earlier post about the 'retheme'. I'm just about finished with Alfred Besters' Demolished Man so I might as well check it out.
I'm sure you'll like it. Stross' style works for me, obviously. I like his
his (rather dark) humor.
I grew up with Bester, Clarke, Harrison, Smith, Asimov et al but never kept up with the more modern authors after I got married.

I learned my scifi from exactly same authors. Still, it's very hard to beat Asimov. But there are quite a few newer scifi authors certainly worth the effort.
