I was thinking about collections in general the other day as i made another purchase to add to one of mine. I bought another fragrance/cologne, and realized that this little obsession of mine has resulted in me having over 30 different fragrances, each one used just a little. I like variety and i do use what i buy, but some might find 30 to be a bit excessive, which is evident when the familiar question - "You bought ANOTHER fragrance???" arises.

So, does liking variety in board games means you will likely enjoy having variety in other things as well? If so, what are some other things that you collect??

I collect CDs and DVDs, though both to a much lesser extent now that a) I discovered board games and b) that I'm of the age where I don't like very much new music!

You should be careful with your fragrance collection. They go off after a couple of years.

Um, books (5,000+), swords (a mere 8 if you don't count the wooden practise swords and lightsabre). Does Magic: the Gathering count as a seperate obsession from board games?

Now I always figure that the sheer number of obsessions I have kind of average out and give me some small semblance of sanity.

I collect a few comics and trade paperbacks, and I buy a lot of DVDs. I also collect roleplaying games, but how many RPG books I buy each year varies greatly (this being a rather heavy buying year). Outside of board games, that's about it.

I forgot Go stones - I have 361 so far.
Joke; kind of. I do have a slate and shell set, and a Goldstone and Malachite set, and a couple of glass sets. But I'm not collecting. Honest.

And dice. Not collecting those either. I just have the set carved from a meteorite. And the pair of electronic d6. And several different sets of metal ones. And a few hundred others from my ex-roleplaying days.

I collect Dice, and Dinosaurs. Equally same degree of obsessions of collecting them and boardgames. Collect and study on them at the same time.

Collected hundreds or thousand distinct dice, not counting those as components of other boardgames. Varying from materials, color, sides, sizes, other features. Collected from self purchases as well as gifts from friends from travels. Still looking for the house-shaped 7-sided dice with rainbow colored pips.

Collected hundreds of dinosaurs, from puppets, plushes, figures, trinkets, models, books, videos, and many accessories.

Besides games, I collect camping gear, rock climbing gear, disc golf discs, cycling parts, some new fangled kayaking toy, surf boards, scuba crap...I guess I'm an outdoors junkie, and love new toys.

I still collect US postage stamps although I stopped purchasing recent ones in about 2000. That's when the US postal service started going crazy and flooding the market with too many varations and reprints. I believe the did this to make up for their loss in postage revenue from email and online bill payments.

Oh.... I forgot about my pewter dragons and rocks from some trips I have been on.

I collect:

Valentine's: every year I buy a few boxes of the latest Valentine's, whatever movie, tv show, sport star is big that year. I keep them in a box in the basement and someday I'll be rich, RICH! I TELL YOU!! I think they're cool. I have some Micheal Jordan ones from when he was on the Bulls.

Lustreware: iridescent glassware from the '40's & '50's

Wallpockets: I don't anymore, tho, I used to buy them when they were $3.00. Now they are $30.00 or more.

Home, Sweet Home stuff: it has to be cool, tho, most of it is tacky.

cake pans: oh, good grief, I sound like a regular becky home-ecky!

Little Golden Books: Especially ones by Eloise Wilkens.

I've always wanted to collect:

1) Pictures of me with various cultural stars and icons, but with them punching me in the stomache. I think that would be hilarious. I ran into George Lucas this summer in Paris, and while I was able to have a quick "How do you do", I couldn't muster the courage to ask him to act like he was punching me for a picture. I'm pretty sure I could ask Shatner to do it and he would, but I've never run into him.

2) Baseballs with signatures from the cast of my favorite TV shows. How cool would it be to have a baseball signed by the cast of Firefly, the Simpsons or Star Trek? I think that would be pretty cool. I wish I'd had a baseball this summer for Lucas to sign.
