Your rules aren't real clear. You say that the only way duplicates are allowed are if 25 more people want it than are trading it, but then you use an example of LotR where more people are trading it than want it, and say that game isn't allowed at all. But don't you mean a duplicate of that game wouldn't be allowed, since the 25 more rule appears to only apply to duplicates?

List will close (both to main entries and sweeteners): Tuesday, December 5, 12:00 CST
Summary will be posted: Tuesday, December 5, 16:00 CST
Want lists will be due: Thursday, December 7, 18:00 CST
Results Posted: Friday, December 8, 18:00 CST

I agree with craniac, this is another LONG math trade (over 8 days!).

Also is this going to be a community tradegenie run? The last math trade the moderator didn't specify, didn't post the want lists until after the the results were posted (and 12 hours earlier) with only 78 trades found... I ran TradeGenie and found 82 trades in 5 minutes on that one, and that same run is now up to 86 trades found... 8 more than the "official" results which were posted 12 hours early. History seems to be showing that math trades that let folks play at home have resulted in finding more trades, which is the whole point of a math trade.

Oops, I had a typo. That is fixed.

Since everyone wants it to end sooner I have moved up the timeline. However, I still want to make sure that everyone has lots of time on Monday to get in those last games.

I am debating at whether or not to try a new approach. That is finding volunteers (other than myself) willing to run the results overnight, email the results to me, and then use the result with the most trades. Anyone have any opinions on this?

I have a strong opinion that there is no need to find "volunteers". I've been following all the math trades for at least the last 6 months, and the ones that have worked the best are the ones where anyone can run TradeGenie at home (and/or work). TradeGenie has an option to verify any result set against the want lists to make sure nothing was tampered with (ie. want lists or results).

The key is to set a deadline for the play at home result set(s) to be sent to the moderator that is shortly before the official results are posted, to give the moderator time to verify the results, and also to break a tie if in the unusual case there is a tie for more trades found.

Regarding breaking ties, so far it's been using the verification code itself (usually using the one with the lowest alphabetical one using the ascii character set [ie. A is less Z, and UPPER case is less than any lower case character).

Oh yea, it's important that those playing at home use -R ... otherwise everyone's TradeGenie is working the data the same path, and the only one who will find more results is the one run for the longest and/or on the fastest machine.

ps: there is no reason why the moderator shouldn't also run TradeGenie... there is full transparency, so no chance the moderator could use their trade set over a larger one (or one that ties but with lower tie breaker)

I didn't realize it now had the -V (Verify results file against input file) option. I will use this and see how it works out.

If anyone wants to run a copy of trade genie to help maximize the number of trades let me know and I will get the want lists to you. Note: If you help I need the results to me by 9CST on Thursday and you need to use the -R option.

Please add me to the list to get the (want) lists

However it's also been a good idea that once all the want lists are in to make them publically available to check for obvious errors. Ie. a want list that may have accidently been split into two lines, or the opposite, two want lists merged into one (not the "now that I see all the want lists I want to change mine" ). Errors of this type have occured in at least 2 math trades in the last 6 months.

Yeah, I am planning on posting them publicly as well.

Unofficial want list verifier
Once again I have my unofficial want list verify up, see

http://activityclub.org/bgg/verifywants.pl

it has the extra feature of converting plain numbered lists (ie. 1 2 3) into the official entry format (ie. 1-sanj 2-nexus 3-7ages).

Thanks for the update. Anyone else excited yet?

Is there a forum thread that describes how to download/use TradeGenie? I would be happy to help process results at home if pointed in the right direction about where to find (and how to use) the software.

Your best bet is to go straight to kayvon's website:
http://www.kayvon.org/

Also kayvon is superhelpful so any questions could probably be PM'd to him.

Well the deadline for want lists is still 8 hours away. Though hopefully with the reminders you sent everyone will have them in at least a little sooner than the deadline

The key thing is that you must make sure to use the -R option. This adds a random factor to where it starts searching for trade chains. Without -R it will always start at the same point (as such, everyone ran it without -R they would essentially just be duplicating the same results).

Also don't be afraid to control-C a run if it appears to be stalled (this is subjective, in theory all runs if we had years and/or supercomputers would all find the absolute max. number of possible trades found, which means even a run that appears stalled will eventually make progress again).

You'll also want to make sure to save the results files in between runs by either renaming the results file or giving a new results file name on the subsequent runs. Ie.

tradegenie -R wants.txt results123.txt

Folks who are running TradeGenie will likely be reporting the most trades their runs have found so far, which will give a benchmark of sorts of when you may want to abort a given run.

For those of us with multi-core and/or processor systems, if you are running multiple copies of TradeGenie out of the same directory, make sure they are using different results files. I have a dual-core and will also make sure the cmd (MS-DOS) Windows I've running the 2 copies of TradeGenie from have had their scheduling priority lowered so I can still get stuff done on the system You can do this using the task manager/processes/set_priority. Come to think of it, even those on single core/processor systems may want to do this.

Sounds like you meant the deadline to be 08:00 CT? However you did put down Wednesday 18:00 CST (ie. 6pm CT, 7pm ET, 5pm MT, 4pm PT).

Hopefully those reminders though will place a fire though under those who haven't submitted their wants yet!

How many more individuals still haven't submitted want lists?

Should also remind folks who are listening that haven't submitted want lists because your want list(s) are empty, that you should still submit the empty want lists so it's known not to wait for you....
