Tom Vasel is organising the BGG Secret Santa game gifting extravaganza at http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/135790 (it closes today, I think, so get in quick if you haven't already)

I love things like this - and when I signed up, I thought "wow I hope I get one of my werewolf buddies" - although of course it's fun to get someone you DON'T know as well.

Then I riffed on that idea and thought, maybe we should do something within the werewolf community. Not games, because that's expensive (and not all ww-ers are *shock* boardgamers). But maybe Christmas(/holiday/new year/etc) cards.

And then I thought, well, if you're sending 1 card, you might as well send 3 or 4.

So a question. Would there be interest in a "secret card" swap? Where you all send me your addresses and I then stalk you forever send you the addresses of 1 (or 2 or 3 or 4) other werewolfers who are participating and we send each other a card?

Or is my holiday obsession getting me carried away?

Would there be interest in this?

How many cards would you want to send?

Re: I want a werewolf for Christmas...
OK, it looks like there is enough interest in this to go ahead, with everyone sending 2 cards.

I am going to make a cutoff date of Saturday 9th December for people to be in on this (although I could probably tinker with it if there were people wanting in after that date).

One problem is that lots of people don't read the forum threads, preferring to go via Cassie to find new games. I'm not going to send mass spam, but I will PM have asked the moderators of games that are currently running if they would mind mentioning this thread in their game.

Information I need is:

Name
Address, including country
Any special comments
(eg I am celebrating ___, I will be away till after Christmas so don't be offended if I don't reply straight away, I can't afford to send a card internationally, I love you Melissa)

I will of course not publish your address and personal details on Teh Internets or use them for fun and profit, but they will be passed on to whoever is sending your card. And I reserve the right to maybe send you a card at some stage when you are least expecting it devil

* Exception to randomness: If, for example, Freyja and jmilum both join, they will have different targets. And there will not be a closed loop if I can help it, although it's possible that someone may end up sending one of their cards to someone else who sends to them.

Responding to questions I have received privately:

Quote:
Can we request who we can send cards to?

I would NOT take requests for who you would be sending cards to. This WILL be a random distribution*. I think if there's someone specific you want to send private greetings to, you can ask them for their address, or just PM them your message of seasonal cheer.

Quote:
Can we send gifts?

Um, that wasn't the idea. I'd even go so far as to say no, don't ... unless it is an item of NO value whatsoever. BGG already has a really good Secret Santa program, I don't think we need to duplicate that.

Thoughts, feedback etc to me or here in the thread.

If I am counting right, we're up to 16 people in this so far (that is people who have either expressed interest here or PM'd me their address or both)

You sound like my housemate 'bah humbug' guy.

We've come to a compromise however, I can put up my tree on the 15th laugh but it must be down by the 2nd latest (I'm grateful for the 1 extra day to recover from New Year's celebrations)

Do christmas cards in Australia have pictures of snow?

Do they have images reminiscent of Victorian England? That's "the classic Christmas look" in the US.

Do you have pine trees there? Cut, light, decorate, etc?

blush yes! blush

Many of us even eat roast turkey, roast pork, heavy roast veggies, etc on Christmas day - although there has been a recent move to bbqs and seafood. (I am a traditionalist - we have turkey and ham, although we usually have salad as well as the veggies). Given that temperatures can easily approach 100(F) on Christmas day, cooking them is not always the most enjoyable experience ever.

I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to find "Aussie" christmas cards to send to my targets. They are still kind of a novelty item.

One that I bought, a few years ago, had a pale blue wash over the front, with 2 black rocks and a carrot lying in it. The caption? "Frosty the snowman regretted his decision to go south for the christmas holidays"

There's always kangaroo and wombat cards. I saw some *ahem* 'naughty' ones at Chadstone. Quite disturbing and I will definitely not be inflicting them on BGG WWers.

Your Xmas dinner menu sounds amazing Melissa. A whole turkey? Since I'm only cooking for 2 I usually go turkey roll and roast vegs. For my dogs I get a kilo of mincemeat, mixed 2 eggs in, then shape the meat into 2 turkey shapes(they look more like ducks actually since I can't do the legs). They love it!!

Do we have our targets yet? I try to send my cards and presents early, by the 12th to Asia and the 15th to the US. I have a horror of them arriving late!

I love Christmas!! laugh

LOL!! I just found some at Northland, although not the naughty ones ::weeps::

We either have a whole turkey or a turkey roll - for 6-8 adults plus a few children - needless to say there is a week's worth of leftovers right there. And my parents usually turn up with a couple of roast chickens because they were worried we would run out of food ... *sigh*

Targets going out tomorrow, I think. (Can't remember exactly when I said it would be, beyond "this weekend sometime")
