Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.
What's the reasoning behind this question? Are you thinking about putting out a newsletter with WIPs and PnPs? That could be a cool way to get a community of people willing to playtest and share their thoughts.
well if I wanted to test your game and was planning on giving feedback I don't think adding me having to email to get the files is that big of a deal. If I just was thinking of trying to make another free pnp then I'd probably pass until I was really wanting your game.
That being said I think there are a few that getting it from BGG just feels more natural and safer. its the "I don't download from strangers" mindset.
Its usually just easier for the designer to post. If you change something or update it somehow you just re-post rather than trying to actually contact people.

I'm guessing the advantage to having people email you to get the files is that you can then keep track of how many people have a copy (assuming they don't share it with others) as well as having their contact info to follow up with.
